“Marli, he can’t land.”

“He just hasn’t seen the right technique.”

“Technique? I supposed that’s your technique, right?”

“Of course,” she shrugged, eyes aglow.

“Guys, I’m right here.” Jori complained. “I’ve almost got the landings right.”

“It’s crucial, sire. Otherwise, there won’t be any mountain left for you to rule.” Sten grumbled.

“Low blow, Sten.”

“Well, you two can squabble all you want. I need to stretch my wings.”

With a glance, Jori turned his back to Marli as she pulled her shirt up over her head and dropped onto the stone ledge. The rest of her clothing followed in succession.

Sten’s breath caught in his throat. He dry swallowed as he appreciated her curves.

“Sten,” Jori barked, noticing that he was gaping at their guest.

Sten reluctantly turned from the lovely view to gaze out over the mountain range while she shifted.

The fizzle of her magic tickled his skin. The only sound that followed was the swish of her wings as she launched into the sky.

He was still watching when Jori cleared his throat. “You going out or you staying to spectate?”

Sten snorted as he pulled his shirt off and laid it next to Marli’s clothing. He paused, noting the bright green lace thong abandoned on the haphazard pile.

“Sten,” Jori’s voice pulled his attention again.

“Yes?”

“She’s my girlfriend—my future queen’s—closest friend.”

“Understood.”

Jori nodded and gestured for him to proceed.

As soon as he was airborne, he ascended, joining Marli’s overhead circling.

Sten never tired of feeling the wind under his wings, the view from the greatest heights and the cleansing scrub of the purest air.

The sun glinted off of her shiny purple claws and gorgeous scales. She was small and lithe and built for speed. He already knew how nimble she was, to have eluded him and his wingmen during their previous chase.

He suddenly wished he could change those first encounter circumstances—take her to another beach where they could be naked together. Alone or not, he didn’t care.

Her dragon scent filled his nose as he flowed through her trail, igniting his hunter’s instinct. He savored her unique blend as it slid over his tongue and across his flared nostrils.

Perfect.

Movement below drew his attention back to his novice king.

He marveled that the terrace could support his size.

Jori’s long neck craned as he checked his position, ensuring his tail wouldn’t shatter the windows when he launched, though they always shook from the force of the wind from his powerful wings.

Kymri, Elora, and Jonathan monitored from the council room windows.
