“Never had one.” She answered honestly with a shrug. “I have dated, but have never had a boyfriend.”

“Not even in high school?” he asked, his eyebrows raised in question. “You were probably the most popular girl at Primrose High.”

She laughed and reached out for his hand, stroking it affectionately. “Being popular does not always translate into dates.”

Silence fell between the pair and Ben met her gaze, his eyes so soft and sincere, then deadpanned. “You were just waiting for me, weren’t you?”

Ever laughed and squeezed his hand, and he winked at her as he took a sip from his cerveza.

“What were you like in high school?” she asked, genuinely curious as she popped a chip into her mouth.

Ben leaned back against the booth and gave her an “are you sure you want to know” look.

“C’mon, you seem to have known everything about me back then! I want to know what you were like!” she urged, giving his forearm a squeeze.

“Well, I was super tall, awkward, not very athletic, although I did play basketball because of my height. Very studious, I usually got good grades. My head was usually in a book. Kind of a loner. I spent more time watching Star Wars movies than socializing with others. It would be safe to say I was a nerd.”

Ever grinned at his description and flashed him a coy smirk. “I like Star Wars and nerds.”

Ben laughed and slid his hand around the nape of her neck, brought her in close and captured her lips in a mind-bending kiss. Releasing his embrace, she reached up to touch his soft lips with her fingertips and cupped his face, making him close his eyes and lean into her touch. Have I ever seen a more handsome man? Have I ever felt so wildly attached to someone? “Ben, I like you. I like you a lot,” she confessed, sliding her fingers through his beard eliciting a low deep guttural growl from his throat. Oh, how I love that growl.

Ben opened his eyes and beamed at her, his eyes crinkling with happiness. “I like you a lot too,” he replied and brushed another tender kiss to her lips then pulled her into a big bear hug.

Was she ready for this? She silently questioned. Would she be able to go back to Toronto in the fall if she started a relationship with this man? Would she be able to say goodbye to him? Looking into his hopeful eyes tonight, all she wanted was to throw out all her apprehensions and jump in feet first, not knowing how she would land.

The food and drinks were amazing. They talked, laughed, touched, and stole kisses as they enjoyed their meals together, basking in each other's company. Their seemingly endless conversation and flirtatious banter made him high on Ever. She made him laugh till his sides hurt and was so unapologetically authentic that he found himself hanging on every word she said. He could not stop touching her, kissing her, just marveling at her presence here with him. He felt like the luckiest man on earth.

Realizing how much time had gone by, they left the restaurant, satisfied and full. He helped her into the truck and climbed in himself, stealing a glance at Ever. “What would you like to do now?” he asked, gripping the steering wheel, the sexual tension from the night before thick in the air.

She flashed him a coquettish grin and raised an eyebrow. “Do you need to ask?”

He took in her words, knowing exactly where their night was going, and glanced at her, meeting her expectant gaze. “Are you sure? We could go out on some more dates and…”

She leaned across the seat and slid her index finger over his lips to silence him. “I want you.”

A low growl escaped his throat, and she smiled, pulling her seatbelt over her, buckling herself in. “Take me home, Bear.”

He did not have to be told twice. Rushing out of the parking lot, he made his way to the highway leading to the farm. They didn’t talk, the building intensity between them growing by the minute. Ben’s groin was tightening in anticipation, and he prayed he would stay on the road. Periodically she would flash him a sexy grin, knowing exactly what she was doing to him.

They pulled into Prairie Sky in record time and Ever turned to Ben, letting out a giggle. “Eager?” she teased.

His lips curled up in a smile and not replying, he unbuckled himself and leaned over to unbuckle Ever. Swooping her up, he settled her on his lap, making her gasp in surprise. Meeting his hooded gaze, she tenderly touched his face and ran her fingernails through his beard as she shifted to straddle him, causing the skirt of her dress to lift, exposing her upper thighs. Taking his face in her hands, she crashed her lips to his as they kissed passionately, tongues moving together like a dance. She ground her hips over his hardness, making him groan in her mouth as his hands ran up the backs of her thighs to cup her behind. She broke their embrace, letting out a moan of approval against his mouth.

“Let’s go inside,” he growled out breathless and wanton. She nodded, and he opened his door, setting her down first and then sliding out after her. Taking her hand at first, then impatiently swooping her into his arms.

“Bear!” she exclaimed with a giggle at his impatience as she held on to him tightly.

He laughed at her reaction, his voice deep and raspy. Reaching the door, she fumbled with the lock, still in his arms. Once inside, he set her down gently. She turned around, pinning him with her hungry gaze. Dropping her purse to the floor, she slowly slipped off her sweater, tossing it next to her purse and leaned down to unfasten her sandals, eyes never leaving his. Fixed in her stare, he turned the lock to the front door. The heat between them mounting by the second. She backed up toward the stairs, playfully gestured him to come closer with the crook of her finger and flashed him a come-hither look. Fuck, she is sexy; he appraised his heart pounding against his chest. Complying with her request, he stalked over to her but before he could reach her, she turned and bolted up the stairs, her giggle trailing after her.

He followed her, searching the darkened rooms, finding her at the end of the hallway, in what must be her bedroom. She stood facing him, bathed in moonlight, then reached up to release the comb holding her hair. Her beautiful reddish-brown waves cascaded down past her shoulders, and his breath caught, taking in her beauty. Radiant. He reached for her pulling her closer and their lips met in a scorching kiss, hot and heady. Running his hands boldly over the curves of her body, as she groaned in appreciation. Nipping her bottom lip, he released it and blazed a trail of kisses down her neck, across her collarbone and over the tops of her breasts, causing goosebumps to form on her skin.

“Help me out of this dress.”, she demanded breathlessly.

Turning her around, he slowly lowered the zipper, making her tremble under the touch of his fingers on her back. Fully unzipped, he slid the dress over her arms, letting it drop to the floor in a pool at her feet. He leaned down and kissed her shoulders, making her shiver from his lips on her heated skin. Her supple skin, like silk under his lips. Her scent, a mix of vanilla and sweet Ever, doing inexplicable things to his body, his lust for her like a dam ready to break.

Slowly, she turned around to face him and he drank her body in. Wearing a light blue demi-cup bra which barely contained her ample breasts and matching bikini panty, only a miniscule strip of lace covering her most intimate part. His mouth watered to taste her. Her waist was soft but trim and her hips an enviable hourglass. Her skin was flawless and incandescent in the moonlight. He had never seen a more beautiful body, and he wanted to explore every inch.
