She removed her shorts, revealing a tiny bikini bottom that made Ben whistle at her and woot out loud in appreciation.

“Dirty old man!” she shouted as she made it across the rocky bank and waded into the lake.

Putting down his fishing rod, Ben replied, feigning insult, “Who are you calling old?”

“You!” she giggled, the water now to her waist.

“I’ll show you.” he laughed, slipping off his swim trunks and standing on the dock buck naked.

Ever laughed at the sight of him. Standing there at the end of the dock, sexy, ripped muscles, glowing tanned chest and torso, impressive dangling manhood and snow-white ass. Flexing his biceps, he turned and gave his tight backside a little wiggle for her.

“Nice ass, farm boy!” she teased, referring to the unfortunate hazard of his job.

“Glad you like it!” he replied, waggling his eyebrows. “Got room for me in that lake?”

“I think so.” she giggled as he jumped in after her, creating a huge splash and soaking her face and hair.

She giggled and splashed him back, both starting a war of water. Their laughs echoing over the lake. Completely drenched, Ben caught Ever by the waist, not allowing her to struggle free.

“Bear!” she squealed as he growled in her ear. “Okay, okay, I surrender.”

He kissed her neck and let her go, pushing his big body into the middle of the lake. Ever swam up to the dock, turned and caught his gaze on her. Reaching around her back, she untied her bikini top and reached down to shimmy out of her bottoms, putting them both on the dock.

Ben transfixed on her, took in her breasts bobbing on the surface of the water with appreciation as she waded back to him. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she pulled him in for a long passionate kiss. He smoothed her wet hair from her face and ran his hands down her back to her behind, lifting her to wrap her legs around his waist. “You are so incredibly beautiful.”

She smiled happily at him and kissed him again softly, meeting his blue gaze. “And you are so handsome.” She complimented back as she ran her hands through his wet hair, giving it a tug. “We would have super cute babies!” Ever laughed, releasing her grip on him, and playfully pushing him away from her with her feet.

“Babies?” he questioned playfully. “Are you thinking about babies now? Why Ms. Wolton, I think you need to put a ring on it first,” he joked, waving his hand in the air and bringing it down with a splash.

Ever turned away laughing, wiping the water from her face. “Do you want marriage and a family someday?” she asked him curiously, paddling closer to him.

“Of course,” he replied, swimming up to her and wrapping her around him again. “And you?”

“You know, I have never given it much thought until recently.” she mused as she met his eyes.

“Really?” he asked, his mouth lifting into a happy grin.

“Really.” she smiled back. “I mean, I am 30, not super experienced with relationships, before you, of course.”

He nodded, acknowledging their mutual lack of experience.

“So, I kind of thought maybe marriage, and a family weren’t something meant for me. But now, here with you. I think it would be nice,” she reflected lovingly, meeting his eyes.

“I think it would be amazing,” he added, leaning into her for a sweet kiss.

That night they made love under the stars, both understanding that their futures, however uncertain, belonged to each other.

CHAPTER 14

The next two weeks sped by faster than Ever wanted. Knowing her time at Prairie Sky was coming to its inevitable end, Ever worked tirelessly to pack up her father’s office and belongings. Most of the general farm business was done from the barn office, while the paperwork stored in his home office was personal. Good on his word, Ben joined her as she went through the bookshelves, boxing up things to give away and items she wanted to take with her.

“Wow, your dad has a lot of livestock magazines!” Ben mused as he sat at her father’s desk and paged through one.

Ever laughed in agreement. “Dad was never much for throwing things away.”

Pulling down several books, she ran her hands over the westerns her father loved so much. Jean M. Auel, Louis L’Amour & Zane Grey Classics all worn and read countless times. Putting them into a KEEP box, she noticed another classic on the shelf. Catcher in the Rye. Running her hand over the cover, she took in the laminate of a library or schoolbook. Opening the front cover, she saw the familiar stamp of PRIMROSE HIGH SCHOOL. Smiling remembering her father’s journal, she hugged it to her chest and put it in her keep box. Ben sifted through some folders, putting aside anything that looked important, then lifted a file box onto the desk to go through it next. He stopped as he lifted the lid of the box.

Looking over his shoulder, her eyes widened. The box was full of photos. Photos of her mother. Photos of her. Photos she had never seen. Photos, it appeared, her father had hidden away. Ever put her hand over her mouth in disbelief. “Ben, let's go through these in the living room.”
