I feel the familiar blush settle in my cheeks. “It was…amazing,” I whisper, causing her to squeal in delight.

“I knew it!”

“Shhh, keep it down, will ya?” I tease.

“Sorry, but Hallie and I totally called it. We both knew it would be explosive,” she murmurs quietly so any patron nearby can’t overhear.

“Well, it was.” My face is hot, but I refuse to cover it in embarrassment.

“Yay,” she sings, clapping her hands together. “So what now? Big plans this weekend?”

“Uhh, he might be spending the night tonight,” I mutter, ignoring the bell over the door for fear everyone in the room will see my embarrassment.

“Really? That’s big,” she concludes.

“It is. I talked to Brody Monday night, and he’s okay with it, so we thought we’d give it a try. I might stay at his place Saturday night.”

“Wow, big steps for you two. Love it,” she states. “Just make sure he’s wearing a raincoat, okay? Not that I don’t think you two wouldn’t make beautiful babies, but apparently, there’s something in the water lately. We’ve had six pregnancy confirmations in the last month.”

“Six?” I ask, my eyes wide. That seems like a really high number for our small town of three thousand.

“Don’t you be number seven,” she quips.

“Seven what?”

I startle as Gabe slides into the booth across from Blair.

“Number seven baby confirmation,” she says before sipping her water.

He looks my way and smiles. “Ahh, that. Yeah, we’ve had a bit of an influx lately. Apparently, it has been a very busy fall,” he adds with a wink.

“Oh my gosh, but wouldn’t TD and Ellie make the cutest babies? Seriously, with your green eyes and his complexion and dark hair, those would be some seriously adorable kids.”

My heart starts to pound, and I’m certain if the diner wasn’t getting louder by the second with the lunch rush, everyone in the room would be able to hear it beat.

“Can Hallie and I throw you the baby shower?”

My mouth falls open. “What? Stop it! I’m not pregnant,” I insist, praying no one in the vicinity overhears.

“I know, but if you were, we could throw your shower, right?”

My eyes roll widely. “Enough,” I grumble. “I’m gonna go grab your lunches.”

Blair and Gabe start chatting as I walk away, pausing to take a drink order for a new table that just arrived. However, the damage has been done. I can’t stop wondering what it would be like to have a child with TD. I’m certain he’d be my partner in every way, from the first onset of the pregnancy through the growing and caring for stages. He’d be there for bedtimes and meals and disciplining. He’d take photos and teach him or her how to throw a football in the backyard. He’d be there for every moment, a true partner in every way.

In all these years, I never pictured myself having another baby. Dating wasn’t easy with a young child, and the few times I did manage to go on dates, I definitely wasn’t thinking about long-term and the potential for more babies. But now I can’t stop thinking about it.

With TD.

He’d be an incredible father, and that baby would be the luckiest child in the world.

Does he want kids?

It’s way too soon to ask those questions, but at the same time, neither of us is getting any younger. We’re thirty-five, which means I’d be considered high risk for any future children I have, and I’m not sure I want to risk that. My son is nearly grown. Do I want to start over again with the diapers and sleepless nights part of parenthood?

I shake my head and grab four plates of meatloaf, loading them onto my tray. I’m getting way ahead of myself here. TD and I have only been dating about six weeks. The possibility of babies shouldn’t even be on my radar.

But it is.
