Page 93 of Love to Fear You

“You? I didn’t think school was your thing.”

He shakes his head, and a low chuckle rumbles in his chest. “I have top marks in all our classes.”

“Is that so?” I fold my arms. “Did you actually earn them, or are you skating by because your father’s name is on the building?”

“Do you want my CV?” he asks. “I assure you, I’m more than qualified for the job.”

My options are limited at this point, and I sigh. “Fine, but you can’t distract me with sex. We actually have to study.”

He leans down so his mouth is at my ear. “Sex can be a great motivational tool.”

His whispered words send a shudder down my neck, and my breath catches. Before I can stop myself…

“I’ll leave the teaching method to you.”

“Excellent.” He gives me a demented grin, and I don’t know if I’m going to regret this decision or love every second. Maybe both.

“But if I flunk out, I expect a full refund.”

“I won’t let you fail. That’s my personal guarantee.”

With a smile, I reach up onto my tiptoes to give him a quick kiss. “Then can we start tonight? My grades are in free fall right now.”

He brings his thumb to my chin, running the pad over my skin. “I will not rest until you graduate. I like to give my students my full”—he presses his lips to mine—“undivided attention.”

Alek bends lower, nipping my neck.

My voice is breathless as I clench my thighs together. “Tell me more about these… methods.”

“Mmm, I like to make sure both the mind and body are nourished and satisfied.”

“And how will you accomplish that?”

He pulls away, and as he does, my shoulders slump. Alek laughs. “I can’t give away all my secrets. Just tell your driver not to pick you up after school.”

“Okay. Thank you.”

I turn to leave, but he catches me by the waist. His arms wrap around me from behind, and he rests his forehead on the crown of my hair.

“Does this mean you’ve reconsidered?” His voice is soft. Quiet.

“Reconsidered what?”

“Ending your life after graduation?”

I stiffen in his arms. Honestly, I’ve been too absorbed in Alek to give it any serious thought. I haven’t been this happy in a long time, but in a way, that scares me even more.

Because if I were to lose Alek, I’d plunge deeper into that pit of hopelessness.

I’ve grown dependent on Alek. His affection feeds me like rain feeds a drought, and his touch gives my body joy in a way I didn’t think was possible again.

If I lose that, I’m left with nothing.

“That depends,” I answer.

“On what?”

I turn around in his arms, tilting my face up to look at him. “On you.”
