If so, it was a hard pass for me.

Erin was a model and socialite that Tate paraded around town for parties, and the like. Or maybe it was the other way around since she had more connections than he did. She was Tate’s on-again, off-again girlfriend. Or fake girlfriend. I didn’t know anymore. Leggy, blonde, and bubbly, she was nice enough on the surface, but I didn’t like her. I didn’t trust her, and I didn’t like the way she held onto Tate.

Like he belonged to her.

I knew that Tate was using her, and it went both ways. That was the problem. I was worried she’d sell him out at some point. Still, I minded my business.

I was a nice guy, after all.

Most of the time. But mess with my friends, Tate especially, and look out. If she made Tate unhappy, I’d rip out her hair extensions without pause.

“She’s in Miami,” Tate replied. “And staying there.”

“She’s moving?”

“She’s gone. Moved a few days ago. Met some guy in the hotel business there.”

“Are you okay?”

I sure as fuck was. I was so relieved at this news.

“Why wouldn’t I be? It was all for show. Besides, there’s now a roster of actresses and models looking to be seen with Tate Aduma.”

“Jesus Christ, your ego is really getting out of hand.”

Tate’s responding laughter had all the hair on my body standing on end. It wasn’t often that he let loose like that. I was extremely possessive of that laugh because I was one of the rare people that could pull it out of him.

Not even Erin could do that.

“I’ll be there soon. Wait out back.”

The line went dead. Typical Tate. Never say hi or bye.

I headed for my bathroom and took a quick shower.

Then I changed into a pair of navy-blue trousers and a short-sleeve button down. Twenty-minutes later, I was in the service elevator that led to the back of the building.

Surprisingly, when I exited the condo, Tate’s red sports coupe was already parked nearby.

“You’re early,” I commented as I walked up to the car. “Mark this date down.”

“Shut up and get in the car, Mr. TV big shot.”

I gave him my favorite finger and then opened the passenger door.

“Nice fit,” he murmured as he lowered his sunglasses and gave me a once over. “Looking for a hot man tonight?”

I was looking right at him.

“Always,” I replied with a wink, then slid into the seat and slammed the door. “I could use a good dicking down.”

Tate swallowed hard and pushed his sunglasses back up, then turned his attention to the road and shifted into drive.

He hit the accelerator, hard, and tore out of the alleyway.

“What about you?” I asked. “Now that Erin’s gone, you’ll be on the hunt for a new piece of arm candy.”

“Don’t be bitchy, Ree, it doesn’t suit.”
