My family.

Something I never, ever thought I’d have, was now the only thing in the world that mattered to me.

And after spending many years chasing my dreams, I finally realized that he was standing right in front of me.

Now I had two of them.

Movie roles and awards were all well and good, but they didn’t fill up all my empty places. Only the love of my husband and my daughter did that.

“Hey,” I whispered as I leaned down to kiss my husband on the head.

“Hey, she fell asleep ten minutes ago. She was exhausted after her playdate.”

“Did you manage to get a nap in yourself?”

Reed snorted. “Nope. I had last minute stuff to organize since Dad and Rissa will be here in a few hours.”

“About that?—”

“Let’s order in tonight, I’m too tired to cook.”

“We can do that, but you and I aren’t staying for dinner.”

“What?”

I leaned over and gave his lips a soft kiss.

“Your dad and sister have agreed to look after Kylie. You and I are heading to Big Sur for a weekend away, just the two of us.”

Reed’s shocked face was worth all the planning.

“Are you sure?”

“It’s all booked,” I explained. “We’ve been going non-stop for the past few months, and we’ve barely said more than ten words to each other in passing. It’s time for an adults-only weekend. I’m stealing you away. Tonight.”

Reed’s luminous smile made my pulse pound hard and fast.

“Thank you, love. I can’t wait.”

I kissed him again, longer, harder, and everything was right in my world.

But our intimate moment was interrupted by our daughter’s sudden squeal.

“Papa!”

She wiggled out of Reed’s arms and held them out to me.

“Uppa!”

I picked her up and stood up.

“Guess who’s going to be here soon? Grandpa and Auntie Rissa!” I told her.

“Yay!”

She squealed louder and I blew a raspberry on her neck. Her infectious giggle had Reed and I laughing right along with her.

It had taken a lot of therapy and a lot of love to get here.
