“Thanks,” I whispered. He jerked his chin, and that was that before the man shut the door, leaving me in the dark.

There was no way March was affected by me as I was by him. And again, it showed my luck when it came to the romance department. I sat there and stared out the window where he’d been. Nothing but darkness filled the parking lot with the light golden hue of the streetlamps that surrounded the area.

“You can do this,” I whispered to myself just as he opened the driver’s door.

“Should be about an hour and half to my place,” he shared after buckling in and starting the truck.

All the while not sparing me a single glance.

Silence filled the cab as he drove. The only sound was that of a country music station he had on playing so softly I could hardly make out any of the lyrics. The mix of the long flight and nerves caught up to me. The next thing I knew, I was opening my eyes to March standing in front of me. His calloused hand was on my cheek, and I was tempted to shut my eyes in case I was still dreaming.

“We’re here, sunshine.” His voice sounded deeper, and I blinked trying to wake up completely.

“Sunny,” I corrected.

March stepped back, and since I just woke up, I forgot how high the truck was when I went to hop off. Luckily, he caught me before I fell completely.

My front pressed to his as his hands wrapped around me. “Shit, baby, you okay?” Baby? Maybe I am dreaming after all?

“I’m fine.” I cleared the breathy tone from my voice and stepped out of his hold. Maybe he is just as tired as I am?

“Okay.” He nodded. “Come on.” He started to walk, and once again, I followed right behind him, my luggage rolling at his side. I stopped as I stared at the beautiful ranch house in front of us.

“This is your place?”

“Yeah, well, ours now.” He scratched the back of his neck. “The Ranch is a couple miles away,” he shared before he unlocked and opened the front door.

The cowboy stepped to the side, and it hit me again. He’d opened another door for me. I walked in, and the house was just as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside. A little bare of homey touches, but it was nice. Clean even, which was surprising since he was a bachelor living alone.

“You have a beautiful home,” I complimented.

“Thanks.” He scratched the back of his neck again. “Let me give you the tour.”

He showed me around. The house had an open floor plan, which was nice because you could look out toward the living room from the kitchen. The backyard was simple—grass and a couple of patio chairs—but very relaxing and inviting. It made you want to hang out.

Then he walked us through the house, and I noticed that each bedroom except for one that was set up as a home office was empty. When we stepped into the master bedroom, nerves started to get the better of me when it hit me. We would be sleeping in the same bed.

Or does he expect me to sleep on the couch?

“I didn’t think things out,” he started to explain. “I should have asked you…”

“About?” I acted like I had no clue what he was talking about.

“The bed situation. I can take the couch, and you sleep in here.”

“That’s a king-size bed,” I pointed out, ignoring the embarrassment I felt toward the boldness of my words.

“California king,” he corrected, and I nodded.

“I’m sure we can both sleep there. I mean…” I chewed on my lower lip. “We’re going to get married, unless you’ve changed your mind now that you met me?” I couldn’t get a read on the big guy.

“Not at all,” he quickly answered. I nodded again.

“Okay, then, it’s settled.” I exhaled slowly. “I’m okay sharing a bed for tonight.”

“I’ll order another tomorrow.” I fought myself from flinching.

“Right.” I smiled tightly, trying not to be offended by the fact my future husband had no plans at all of sleeping next to me.
