“Do we know any targets aside from Macklin’s obsession with making Ash suffer?” Lucian wondered.

Noticing that my cane was about to fall, I positioned it to lean against the table.

“We can only assume it’s the Sadists,” Colt replied. “We usually have to suffer the most.”

I nodded solemnly.

People just didn’t know our struggle.

Lucian turned a little smug. “Funny, because I do consider myself a Sadist, and I rarely find myself in the retaliation zone.”

“Because you terrify them,” I laughed.

“Or,” Lucas replied, “Sadists like Colt and KC simply don the Sadist cap as their excuse to act like children.”

Oh Christ. That was a bit see-through, Lucas.

Colt and I shared a wry smirk.

“We get it, baby.” Colt patted Lucas’s cheek. “You’re upset because we called you out on your readin’ habits.”

Precisely.

Lucas blew out a breath and sent a skyward glance, as if asking for strength.

“How do those two strong drinks sound now?” Lucian prodded.

“Oh, I need them badly,” Lucas assured.

We didn’t buy it.

“Anyway…” Colt reached for his coffee. “We might wanna come up with a strategy to make the brats either cancel the prank or move it to the house. We’re a little concerned we’ll be banned by the cruise line.”

I chuckled. That was legit. Luckily, there was more than one cruise line.

“Why don’t you challenge them?” Lucian suggested. “The ship has what, four swimming pools? Buy a bunch of Nerf guns or whatever you prefer and host a game in a pool. Losers have to be good boys.”

We didn’t need Nerf guns, but the rest of the idea wasn’t bad at all. Judging by Colt’s expression, he was on board as well.

“I propose we save the Nerf guns for when we can run around the lawn at Mclean,” Colt said, and I agreed. “But I like it. Shouldn’t be too hard to plan some fun games—in and out of a pool.”

Lucas looked like he wanted to say something. Maybe about our maturity. Either way, it made Lucian chuckle into his coffee cup.

I—

“Daddy?”

I looked over my shoulder, finding Kit in the doorway. His proverbial tail was between his legs.

“Yeah?” Colt responded.

Kit hesitated and bit his lip. He was damn sweet, that boy. All contrasts, ink, kink, and innocent cuteness.

“I, um, added a few more toys to the donation bag,” Kit said.

Oh dear.

Lucas winced and shook his head. “Don’t tell me you bought even more of those stuffies, little one.”
