She accepted the glass and moved to the bed, where she sat at the foot. I moved to the chair in the corner and dragged it across the small space, placing it in front of where she was seated before I filled it. I spread my body wide, leaning back with my eyes glued to hers, while I slowly drank the brown liquor in my glass. After it was gone I reached beside me and placed the empty glass on the floor, resting my arms on the wooden framing of the chair.

“Did you compete?”

She slowly shook her head.

“Your name was on the list.”

Rhoni released a soft sigh. “I was going to but changed my mind.”

“Because of your father?”

Something flickered in her eyes and she nodded slowly but added, “The last time I played pool was with you.”

Realization washed over me. “Did I fuck up your game?”

“Not my game, just the memories attached to it.”

“I apologize.”

The apology was sincere. Pool was important to Rhoni because of her dad, but I wasn’t upset that she now associated the game with memories of me. I personally knew most of those memories were good. The only one that might have cut deep was my absence and even that provided me with a sense of satisfaction. I hadn’t been alone in this. She missed me too.

“Don’t apologize. You had no control over how my mind functioned and it wasn’t just you.”

I smirked and moved my chair closer before leaning forward, enough to grab one of her ankles. I lifted her foot into my lap and traced the side of her calf with the tip of my finger. I could smell her arousal and it made my dick hard again.

“My absence disrupted your peace. You deserve an apology.” My fingers massaged her skin and her eyes lowered to the point of contact. Mine remained on her until I had the focus of those pretty browns again.

“You care about my peace?” Her eyes flashed with mischief.

“I do, would you prefer I not?”

She shook her head. “I think I like the idea of you caring about me.”

I chuckled, lifted her foot, and pressed a kiss to the top of it. “Me too.”

“How was prison?” She seemed amused.

“Do you really want to know?”

Her brows pinched and she raked her teeth over her bottom lip. “Yes.”

“My end goal made it tolerable.”

She smiled. “Oh that’s right, you’re a very rich man.”

“It wasn’t the money, Rho.”

“Then what was it about?” She knew the answer and just wanted to hear me say it. I didn’t mind because she could have anything she asked for.

“You were my end goal.”

“You had me.”

“For one night, which wasn’t enough.”

I wanted what I couldn’t have then and now I wanted her even more.

“One night was enough for me.”
