“Fam, I’m not your bitch nor am I your personal shopper. You had something clean to put on after you washed yo’ ass. Bare minimum was all I could do for you. You’re outside now. Ball the fuck out. You can damn sure afford it.”

I chuckled lightly, nodding again as I pulled in deep from the blunt. “Yeah, I can but so could you. I expected better, fam.”

He was the only one who ever stood by me, no questions, no hesitation. So as soon as I had full access to the money I stole, one million was his. He didn’t have to ask but never fucking would. We were solid that way. Kairo was family which he proved by ensuring my lawyer did what the fuck I paid him to do while I was inside.

My money was plentiful and legal thanks to attorney-client privilege which kept my name clean. That and the fact that my lawyer was the one moving illegally for me in my name while I was locked up. If I went down, so did he and let's just say, he wasn’t built like me. I did my time like a fucking G. I would bet every penny to my name, he wouldn’t fare so well on the inside. Every move I made was strategic.

“You didn’t switch up on me while you were inside did you, fam?”

“The fuck is that supposed to mean?”

“I only spend my money on bitches and I have never known you to be one, but I mean shit, you’ll still be my people if things changed while you were inside. I’mma fuck with you regardless.”

I barked a laugh before making clear, “Bruh… don’t fucking play like that. Ain’t no bitch in me and never will be.”

“Aight then and the clothes don’t matter anyway. It’s all about the shoes. Tell me those Off White Chicagos didn’t set shit off for you.”

I chuckled, he had a point. “Aight, you got that.”

“You’re damn right I do. Now let’s get to the real shit.”

“Which is?”

“Your time is your own now, so what’s next?”

“Fuck if I know?”

“You know. I’m surprised that wasn’t your first stop.”

I smirked. Kairo was the only person who knew Rhoni fucked up my entire world in one night. I didn’t trust anybody else to know of her existence because had they stepped to her, dropping bodies would have been my priority when I exited those prison gates.

“I don’t know where she is.”

“Possibly not, but you know where she was, that’s a start.”

“I’ll get to that. Right now I just want to enjoy a minute of peace. I’mma smoke this shit you blessed me with, have a glass of this Hennessy, and take in the newness of my life.”

“Aight, pull up when you’re done being all nostalgic and shit. We need to celebrate the right way. I still can’t believe you pulled that shit off.”

“Shit, I can. I’m a gotdamn genius.”

“I see sitting down for four years didn’t humble your ass.”

“Not even a little bit. I’mma holla at you though.”

“Aight, that’s a bet. Welcome home, family.”

I ended the call and took in my surroundings, smiling as I expelled a cloud of smoke.

“Welcome-muthafuckin-home.”

Rhoni.

I chewed the corner of my lip watching with keen eyes as the player called his final shot. “Eight ball, center pocket.”

He was about to advance to the final round and he wasn’t that good. I hated that I’d removed myself from the competition, but I just couldn’t do it. I thought I could, a part of me felt like I needed to, but when I arrived there was too much pressure. I backed out, removed myself from the tournament, and was replaced with a backup player who was subpar at best.
