“Before or after you paid that woman for sex.”

He chuckled and moved closer. So close that his body brushed mine. I could feel the body heat, smell his cologne, and remember what it felt like for him to really touch me. All of the above was a dangerous combination.

“I didn’t pay her to sleep with me. I paid her to ask if I could buy you a drink.”

“So she said.”

He smiled. “You don’t believe her?”

I didn’t answer, just stared at him. He moved and his hand met my waist. The warmth of his palm seeped through the sheer sweater dress I was wearing, searing my skin with memories of that same hand on my bare skin. Then I had the low, smooth rasp of his voice again. “I missed you, Rho.”

“I missed you too.”

“Can I have a hug?”

I nodded and he pulled me into his chest. My body submitted when I exhaled a shaky breath and inhaled him. Terrible mistake. His arms closed around me and it felt so right, so familiar, so perfect. His face moved to the curve of my neck and I had his voice again. A low vibration against my skin. “I really fucking missed you, Rho.”

“What are you doing here?” I felt emotional in a way that didn’t make sense. I barely knew this man but he felt like everything I needed and he was here.

“I went to your place. Your cousin told me where to find you.”

“You were looking for me,” I rushed out.

“Yeah, that okay with you?” He searched my face, but still hadn’t released me. Only pulled back some to get a true gauge on what my reaction would be. With my brows pinched I nodded and one arm released its hold on me to extend towards the bar. Without looking, Dreaux wrapped his large hand around the bottle.

“Come on.”

“Where?”

“To your room. We need to get caught up.” My body sang its approval and when Dreaux used his free hand to lift the glasses I fully took him in. Dark jeans, black long-sleeved tee, Off White Chicago 1s. His hair was longer on top, a low Caesar cut had morphed into a spirally mass of chaos and his beard was slightly thicker but still no hang time. My fingers ached to move through both.

“Maybe I have plans.”

His laugh was quiet, almost threatening. “And maybe I want to fuck up your plans, then fuck you.”

My lips parted in shock but then I smiled. This much about him was still the same. Still very demanding and dominant.

“I didn’t have plans.”

His smile was beautiful and sinful, a promise that if I had they changed the minute he inserted himself into my evening. If I didn’t have plans before, I did now. “I know, come on.”

The words were a command. One that was laced with an unmistakable edge of control. A command that had me smiling as I stepped away from the bar.

I really missed you too, Dreaux.

We traveled from the bar through the lobby. Dreaux remained close but a few steps behind. I felt him watching me, the burn of his gaze heated my skin through my dress. I thought about those eyes on me while I was naked and my stomach tightened.

On the elevator he also kept his distance. I occupied one side while he took the other with a piercing gaze locked in place. He watched me cautiously as if I might disappear and my insides warmed at the thought that he didn’t want me to.

When we reached my room, he waited while I used my key and the minute we stepped inside, the glasses and bottle found a table and his hands found me. My back met the door and his mouth was on my neck, my jaw, then inches from my mouth.

“Can I kiss you?”

I exhaled a shaky breath and nodded slowly but reared my head back seconds before his lips met mine. Dreaux’s brows knitted in confusion.

“Did you kiss her?”

His head shook slowly.
