Meg rolled her eyes and huffed. “No, really, I was, like, 10% of this and 10% of that and 12% of something and 18% of something else. I’m a certifiable anthropological mutt.” She jingled the ice in her glass to Paul.

“I like to call you a hybrid, Meg.” Paul filled her glass again. “And now you’re cut off.”

“Yeah, probably should have cut me off two glasses ago, but hey, we’re staying in Mexico, baby, so let the fun begin.”

The plane jolted in the stormy weather, and Meg’s “fun” spilled all over her.

“Crap. Paul, do you have a change of clothes?”

“Sorry, Meg. You can take it off and put on a robe I have back here and use the hand dryer in the bathroom to dry it off.”

“I have a t-shirt you can borrow. Paul, can you get my bag?”

The airline staff probably thought the bag he’d carried on was his, but it contained items for Sam from Brittney. Liam imagined Sam lived a very frugal life. Brittney’s expectations had to be met for when she saw him, and now that time was short and they might be rolling right into the rehearsal dinner, Liam was thankful she’d packed him a bag. The clothes wouldn’t even fit Liam, but they would fit Meg.

He searched for a simple Foo Fighters screen print t-shirt and handed it over. Paul returned to the galley in the back.

It would be a little big, but Liam imagined she cared less about what people thought of her clothing. Meg was 100% Meg.

Meg held it up. “Perfect. Great band, too. Seen them in concert four times.”

“All in Omaha?” Liam asked.

“No, Kansas City, Omaha, Council Bluffs in Iowa, and Sioux Falls in South Dakota.”

“So you have traveled?” Liam heard Paul chuckle as he asked the question.

Meg smiled as she passed by his chair to the bathroom. “You got me. The Midwest is my jam, and now I live in Denver.”

Liam wondered if he’d been a friend with these people in a past life. He felt more at home with them than most of his family.

She returned from the bathroom. “Tell me a little about Sam.”

What do I even know anymore?

“The baby brother of the family. He’s strong-willed like a hurricane, so this is a fitting way to have to rescue him.”

“Is he doing okay?”

Liam stilled. “I think so. I haven’t gotten to talk to him. We got him a message through his housekeeper or roommate. I couldn’t exactly understand which she was with my limited Spanish. He responded by text that he’ll come back for the wedding and that was it.”

But he didn’t say he’d stay. Liam wondered what would entice his baby brother to make the U.S. his permanent home again.

“Does he have any special needs for the flight home?” she asked, her eyes soft.

Special needs?

“No, he’ll be fine. He might even annoy you with his flirty ways, Ms. Gilbert.”

“I’d say Sam’s the one that might want to watch out. I’ve seen Meg in action. She has a way with men.” Paul took the five steps from the galley to the main cabin area, holding out a tray with a fancy mint. Meg waved it off, but Liam grabbed two.

They were like pillows of tranquil delight in his mouth. Every moment of this trip had been almost too perfect.

Including the impromptu lap dance.

Paul motioned to Meg’s seatbelt. They had a very brother/sister dynamic, and Liam missed how his siblings used to interact like that. Growing up had changed him. He wanted to go back.

Paul collected the wrappers. “We’ll be landing soon. I’d suggest any final movements around the cabin happen now.”
