“Hey, boss. I’m already here.” Sam poked his head into the cockpit. “I’d be glad to fly as second mate to Jonathan.”

Jonathan smiled. “Go get buckled in for the ride, Callie.”

“Wait. Why are you here? Buckled in? I’m heading out. I have to find —”

“Just go to the main cabin. The client will understand.” Sam guided her through the curtain, and her gaze met the bluest of blue eyes and the deepest dimples.

“I’m sorry. I know you were in a tough place in Mexico, and I’m sorry for leaving and not listening to you. All I saw was my past hurt and I should’ve only been seeing you.” She swallowed down every fear, every question, and every plan. Standing so close to Liam that he could reach out for her. “I want to play tic-tac-toe with you forever, Liam.”

He guided her onto his lap. “I can’t wait, Callie. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

Xs and Os, forever.

Epilogue

Liam

“Meet your niece, Aunt Callie and Uncle Liam. This is Amalie Jade Quinlan.” Trent handed over the 6 lbs. 3 oz. of tiny human into Callie’s arms.

“Nice to meet you, Miss Amalie. She has Brittney’s nose and your chin dimple, Trent.” Callie kissed the top of Amalie’s head. She smelled like freshness and hope.

“Can I hold her?” Liam asked.

Callie slipped the tiny body into his arms, and he smiled down at her. “You’re going to be very spoiled.”

Seven months had passed, and Liam had everything he wanted. He had the woman of his dreams. He had the company of his dreams. And he had the life of his dreams.

After a long conversation with Brittney, Britt and Callie had arrived at the conclusion that Trent had done them both wrong, and Callie was better off without him and Brittney was better off because of him. He truly had changed for her, and sometimes a man had to do that for the woman he loved.

Liam sat in a rocker in the corner of the nursery. “How can someone be so small? She’s so tiny.” He lifted her hand in his, and his finger was bigger than her wrist. “She’s going to be a?—”

“Rocket scientist,” Brittney interjected. “Or whatever she wants.”

“I was going to say—if you’d let me finish, sis—that Miss Amalie is going to be a heartbreaker.”

“She’d get that from her father.” Meg snickered at Trent, and he shook his head. Megatron didn’t forgive as easily as some. “But I think she’s going to be a pilot, like her Aunt Callie.”

“She’ll be whatever she wants, but there will be no pressure to join the family business,” Sam added in a final declaration.

Everyone nodded. That was the truth. She would be loved and adored, but expectations had taken the family to their knees, and they would end with Liam’s generation.

“Okay, folks, Britt needs to feed our little girl to stay on schedule.” Trent was Mary-fuckin’-Poppins, and it made Liam a little … jealous. He wondered if his chance to father a generation had passed. Callie hadn’t mentioned wanting kids, and with her career she’d have to take significant time off, but as the boss, that wasn’t a deal breaker.

Liam’s house had sold just a few weeks before their trip back to Omaha, so they headed to their hotel. They sat in the cocktail lounge off the entry, and he had a glass of bourbon while Callie had a glass of water.

“She was just so damn cute.” Liam couldn’t get over his new niece.

“She’s a mini-Brittney.”

“You ever think about having one of those?”

Callie stilled. “A baby?”

“Yeah, a little piece of you and a little piece of me?”

Callie drew a little design in the condensation on her water glass. “If I told you the puzzle was already complete, would you be upset?”
