Hot breath rustled across her ear. “Callie, take a deep breath.” His large hands rested at the place where her body curved inward before her generous hips took over. “You’re okay. I’m okay. I’ll help you up. Slowly.”

He lifted her to standing like she was a feather. For being thin and tall, the man had strength. His hands remained at her waist, and her back against his front. He adjusted his body until they weren’t touching each other. A part of her missed the contact. She’d been so focused on getting the business up and going, and getting over Trent, that any of her other needs had been dismissed as unnecessary. But Mr. Young felt almost necessary.

She shivered as she remembered the last minute.

“Captain Laurel? Are you okay?” The tortured rumble of his voice told her the incident had affected him, too. Part of her was thrilled, but she pushed it away. This wasn’t the desired level of service she’d had in mind and being paid for physically assaulting him mortified her. Callie closed her eyes and hoped for a genie to appear and grant her just one wish.

But what would I really wish for?

She didn’t turn around while straightening her outfit. Her voice shook as it exited her mouth, similarly to his. “Enjoy your flight, Mr. Young.”

“I’d say it’s off to a very interesting start. Thank you, Captain Laurel.”

She cringed as she walked away. Closing the cockpit’s curtain behind her, she slumped into her seat. Her full bladder was now the last thing on her mind.

Jonathan gave her a once over. “Everything go okay out there?”

“I basically forced Liam to motorboat me, and then I gave our first customer a lap dance.” She couldn’t believe the words coming from her mouth.

“I’m sorry? What?” Jonathan spit out while chuckling heartily.

“You need to announce before the plane moves!” she shout-whispered the words to him as he continued his laughing.

“I did,” he said, shaking his head.

“Far … far in advance.” She adjusted in the seat. The leather squeaked with the movement.

Jonathan widened his eyes and stifled another laugh. “Guess we know what the ‘something special’ is that we got for Mr. Young.”

Callie shook her head at him while settling in. The small tablet screen to her left for staff communication lit up.

Meg: I know we said VIP service, but I think you took it a little too far.

Callie: Make sure he’s okay, please.

Meg: Oh, he’s okay. But I want to be clear. I’m not pole dancing for a 5-star rating.

Callie rolled her eyes. She hated mistakes, but understood they happened. It was better to move on.

Plus, there was always one minor hiccup with every flight. It was an aeronautical Murphy’s Law.

This is that one.

Instead of letting her off the hook, Murphy’s Law decided to kick Callie’s ass.

Two hours into the flight she’d checked the weather a dozen times. What was supposed to be a little rain wasn’t. The tropical storm took an unexpected turn, moving straight toward where they were heading. The weather wouldn’t let up for a couple of days. It’d been a chance she was willing to take, and no matter what they’d get Sam out safely. Eventually.

Jonathan nodded after examining the forecast, too. “You know what we have to do, Captain.”

There was no other choice.

She pushed the intercom. “Mr. Young, could we see you in the cockpit, please?”

Paul radioed back. “It’ll be just a minute. Meg and Liam are in an intense game of tic-tac-toe.”

Callie stifled a giggle. “After he’s beaten Meg then, please.”

“Hey!” Meg yelled out from the main cabin.
