“Try this.” He kissed her softly. “If that doesn’t work, try this.”

His kisses burned hotter.

When he created a damp trail down her throat using his lips and tongue, her breaths grew shallow. “Uh, Nik, there is one thing that still bothers me, something your mother said.”

“What?” He spoke the word while nibbling her sensitive flesh.

“She says you can’t be happy living in a small town like Brookhaven, and you’ll grow to hate me if I keep you here. I know you were secretly hoping I would move to Vegas, and that was why you started selling my baked goods in your hotel without asking.”

“But I gave up on that. Remember? I returned your bakery. You were right about me trying to fix things to suit myself. You wouldn’t be happy living in Vegas, and I don’t think Mia would be either.”

That made her feel bad. “I can’t work this to suit myself either. You love your football team too much to give it up.”

“Who said I am giving anything up? I have a jet, my love. I can go to Vegas whenever I want, and I can work out of my home office here. Technology is a good thing. No doubt I can run the entire company from here.”

Chloe shook her head. “I can’t let you do that. I can’t let you sacrifice for us.”

“It’s my job as a father and as a husband to sacrifice when I need to and to put my family first. It’s not a hardship. Being with you and Mia makes me so happy that nothing else matters.”

What if it didn’t last? His mother’s warning rang in her ears. How could she be sure he wouldn’t eventually resent her?

She smiled as an idea occurred to her. “Maybe we can compromise. What if we spend half our time in Vegas and half our time in Brookhaven?”

He shook his head, instantly rejecting her offer. “Mia needs structure and stability while she is young. Perhaps we can do that after she’s a bit older. Sound good to you?”

“Sounds perfect.”

She looped her arms around his neck and kissed him as though it was their last kiss. She needed to make it count. In fact, she planned to take him to the bedroom and show him how grateful she was for his support.

They belonged together.

Nothing could ever convince her otherwise.

With a smile on her face and his mouth on her throat, she remembered something else. “Wait a second. You told your mother you weren’t going to introduce her to our other children. Are there going to be other children?”

He picked her up and carried her to their master bedroom.

On the way, he said, “I want a son, of course, to carry on the Andropolis name.” He set her on her feet near the bed. “Are you okay with that? Sometimes you don’t seem very happy that you had a child with an Andropolis.”

Her arms wound around his neck. “Hey, I have no problem with having as many children as you want and giving them your name. Just don’t forget, I am an Andropolis now too.”

He growled deep in his throat before taking her mouth in a passionate kiss.

Epilogue

Their wedding day.

Nik stood at the end of the aisle, pride swelling in his heart while watching Mia walk down the aisle to him. Dressed in a cute little pink number that her mother bought for her last weekend, his little girl smiled at him. His eyes were glued to her. He wanted to rescue her if she got scared. The large church seated three hundred, and they were filled to capacity. There were even some people standing in the back. Having that many eyes on a person could intimidate anyone.

Mia did a good job. She threw pink petals on the floor and seemed to take quite a bit of delight in making a mess. When she reached him, she stopped and puckered her lips with her face tilted up. He kissed her. Some people laughed and others sighed. “Aw.”

Aunt Kristina waved Mia over to stand beside her at the altar. She was one of six bridesmaids, all dressed in various shades of pink. Chloe had planned their wedding down to the tiniest detail, and she’d made a five-tier cake for the occasion, each with a different filling.

The string quartet sitting in the corner began to play the bridal song.

Double doors parted at the end of the aisle, and he got his first glimpse of his bride. She stole his breath away. He had known Chloe possessed a rare beauty any woman would envy, but her appearance today brought tears to his eyes. She looked like an angel in blinding white floating down the aisle to him.

He blinked his damp eyes. This was it. This was the most perfect day of his life. Even though he had thought that happened when his team won the Super Bowl a few years ago, this was it. This was the best day of his life.
