He had a wistful smile on his face.

“What are you thinking about?” she asked.

“Us.” He grinned, and it deepened his dimples. “I was just remembering the night of the blizzard and how we made love for the first time right there in front of the fireplace.”

The memory brought a smile to her face as well. If they didn't have children that could walk down the stairs at any given moment, she would suggest they recreate that night. “One of the most beautiful and unforgettable moments of my life,” she said. “I was so worried about losing you. If it wasn't for that blizzard, we wouldn't be together now.”

“I don't think that's true,” he said.

“You don't?” She sat up straight and looked at his face. “Do I have to remind you that you had one foot out the door? You couldn't wait to go back to Boston. I did everything to keep you here but tie you to a chair.”

He wrapped some of her long hair around his fingers and gently tugged. “Somehow, I would have come to my senses. Even if we hadn't made love that night, I would have dreamed about your kisses. I believe if two people are meant to be, the universe will find a way to put them together.”

“You do?” She smiled at the thought. “I had no idea you were such a romantic, Jared Wilder.”

“It's good I can still surprise you after all these years, Beth Wilder.”

“I love it when you say my name like that.”

He released her hair and placed two fingers beneath her chin. Tipping her face, he leaned in and kissed her. After eight years of marriage, his kisses still had the ability to rock her world. Her heart skipped a beat, and she longed to spend the next few hours in his arms. No matter how many times he touched her, it still seemed new.

And wonderful.

“Someone asked about you today,” he said.

“Who?”

“You don't know him. It was one of the doctors I work with.” Jared nibbled a path down her throat. “He asked me how I got so lucky in the wife department, and I told him it only cost me a billion-dollar ranch.”

She rolled her eyes. “You know I hate it when you tell people that. I didn't take the ranch, not even when you offered it up on a silver platter.”

He grinned. “Don't worry, babe. I told him it was a bargain.”

That made her smile. He cupped her face as if she was the most precious thing he'd ever seen, and he kissed her until she was breathless. She melted against him.

“Hey,” he said abruptly, making her jump. “Sorry.” He chuckled. “We have a bed upstairs. Maybe we should use it.”

“Sounds like a plan to me.”

He stood and held his hand out, which she eagerly took. They walked to the stairs together. Jared paused at the kitchen doorway and looked at it as if there was something he wanted in there. Knowing him, she figured he was ready for another slice of pie.

“Go ahead,” she said. “If you're still hungry, I can wait.”

He shook his head. “I was just remembering something else about our courtship.”

“What's that?”

A naughty grin formed on his mouth, and a mischievous glint came to his eyes. “We never did try that whipped cream thing.”

She frowned. “Whipped cream? What are you talking about?”

“Don't you remember? You told Alice I wouldn't be interested in you if you were naked and covered with whipped cream. I always wanted to put that to the test.”

“Get the canned stuff.” Her mouth twisted in a wry smile. “It will be easier to use.”

He gaped at her. “Seriously? You don't mind if I lick whipped cream off you?”

“Well, you'll have to take a warm shower with me after we're done and get me all sudsy and slippery and...”

She walked away, leaving him with his mouth hanging open, and she headed upstairs to their bedroom without looking to see what he would do next. Even though it sounded messy, she hoped he would bring the whipped cream with him. A magazine she'd recently read gave good advice on keeping passion in a marriage. They needed to be spontaneous sometimes, try fun new things, and trust each other implicitly. She was willing to try almost anything as long as Jared was by her side. Once he was done, maybe she would try it.

She liked whipped cream, too.
