“Too late. I like you wet,” he teases, his eyes drinking me in. “You’re hired.”

“Hun-gee,” Easton pipes up in the back and interrupts our negotiation.

“Me too, buddy. Did you have dinner plans, or did you want to come with us for a bite to eat?”

“Sum eat! Sum eat!”

“That’s settled, then.” He chuckles, grinning at me. “Unless you want to break a little boy’s heart?”

“Low blow, Hawthorne. You don’t play fair.”

“Never claimed to, baby.”

The Realtor beams at me as I stare at the keys in my hand. The excitement inside me grows, simmering to a point where I can’t wait to get out of the Realtor’s office and head back to the hotel.

It’s late afternoon, and Summer will be finishing in a few hours. There’s no one I want to share this with more than her. Besides, I’m pretty certain that in spite of all the times I spoke to her about the place over the last few weeks, she doesn’t know that I put in an offer after we saw the property and signed the contract today. I wanted to have it all settled before asking her to redecorate.

“Are we all set?” I ask the Realtor as she files the signed contract into an envelope and hands it to Easton.

“You got yourself a house, little man,” she coos at him before looking back at me and giving me another great-doing-business smile. “You’re all set.”

When we get out of there, I can’t wait to see the look on Summer’s face when I show her the keys to the house. The enthusiasm she has when she talks about all the possibilities with the lighting and the high ceilings is nothing short of hypnotic. Summer’s so astute and switched on that there isn’t a single thing I can think of that she couldn’t do. It’s one of the things I adore about her. Where there’s a will, Summer always finds a way.

“What do you want for dinner, buddy?” I ask Easton once we’re close to the hotel.

“Noods!” he yells back at me.

“Noodles? We’re celebrating, I think something fancy.”

“Fancy?” he repeats the new word with a confused look. “Fanceeee.”

“Yeah, special.”

“Fancy noods.”

“Alright, East, noodles it is.”

“Red noods.”

The fact he’s obsessed with tomato pasta doesn’t say much about my cooking efforts. A lot of the time the kitchen sends food up for us, which is one of the things I’ll miss the most about our current living arrangements.

By the time I park and we make it up to the hotel lobby, Easton is beyond excited to show Summer the envelope he’s still clutching.

“Hey, bud,” I call his attention back to me, crouching in front of him. “Why don’t I take the envelope, and you give Summer the keys?”

“Yes.” He nods back with his entire body wiggling. “Sum now?”

“Yeah, you can find Summer now.”

It’s all the go-ahead he needs to run toward the bar. Keys jingling with every step he takes, and my heart bounces along too. I like the way he loves Summer, and more so I like that she will make a big fuss of him the minute he finds her, even before she graces me with her smile.

Rolling the envelope into a tight tube, I busy my hands so that I can expel some of the giddy energy vibrating inside me at the sight of them together.

“Slow down, sweetie,” she laughs as he stutters and stumbles over his words.
