Fuck, I want to kiss that lopsided grin of hers more than I need my next breath. The shimmer of her gloss taunts me with the ghost of its sweetness branded on my senses. Before I do something stupid like devouring her lips in front of Easton, I take a step back and tell her, “We’ll be waiting, right, bud?”

Easton nods, singing, “Latuh ’gatoh…”

“In a while, crocodile,” she croons back at him, making it really fucking hard to walk away because her sweetness and kindness are so damn addictive that I don’t know how I leave her behind.

Seb laughs at my groan. “It’s sound advice, man. Remember, rip it, grip it, roll it, and dip it.”

“Where do you even get this shit?”

“Meh…comes naturally. I really am just that funny.”

“Debatable.” It really is, and I often wonder how he managed to work his asshole charms around Kate. They’re complete opposites, but then I guess it’s what balances them out.

For a moment, I wonder what Summer and I do to each other. She’s so filled with hope and happiness while I’m a skeptic at best. I like control, and she’s trusting rough to give it to me. I guess we’re not all that unsuited.

“I’m being serious now.” Seb’s tone lowers. “I’m happy for you, Parker, and I hope it works out between you and Summer.”

“Me too. Easton loves her.”

“Yeah, I’m sure Easton does.”

The implication of his remark gets my mind whirring a million miles a minute. As much as I like Summer, I’m counting down every second to being with her again. Holding her. Kissing her. Drinking up all her laughter. I’m not sure whether I can hand myself completely over to her the way his quip implies. I need time, and besides, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Right?

“Thank Kate for me, and give Lou a hug. We need to set up that hike we keep talking about.”

“Sure thing, man. Oh, and remember to wrap it before you—” I hang up before he has a chance to finish and check the time again, followed by another sweep of the place.

The menus are laid out on the coffee table. The overflowing toys are contained to the corner with the toy boxes, leaving the couches free for sitting.

I grab Easton a juice box from the fridge, along with some carrot sticks to stop him from getting hangry before I order dinner.

The watch on my wrist is getting heavier by the second. Waiting for the hour to pass had me going crazy. Now that we’re almost twenty minutes past it, I’m digging deep for every last vestige of my better judgment because I’m seconds away from getting in the elevator and going to get Summer myself.

Staring at the Breitling’s green face, I inhale a deep breath.

What the hell is she doing to me?

I’ve never been this obsessed with anyone, let alone a woman. And after Heather…any sane man would have alarm bells ringing on high. Not me though. The only bells going off are the seconds ticking by, echoing as I pause in the kitchen doorway and watch East line up his favorite toys by the entry table that holds the memory of her taste every time I glance at it. It’s become my second most prized piece of furniture Summer and I have fucked on, after the bed.

“Door, Daddy.” Easton perks up at the soft knock, and the tightness around my chest eases.

I haven’t scared her off yet.

Although, when I let her in, it’s not Summer’s usual smile that greets me.

“Something wrong?” I ask as Easton pushes between us to take her hand.

“Come, Sum,” he says, tugging at her to follow as she nods at me.

“You sure?”

“Yeah, after you left, it picked up, and then there was an issue with the soda gun… It’s all good now.” Of course it is, otherwise she wouldn’t be here.

“Why didn’t you call me?”

“Because it’s the manager’s job to find a solution, and we did. Relax, the place hasn’t fallen apart.”
