“Well, you pair of lovebirds got plans to come back before the wedding?”

We haven’t even discussed the wedding, but if Summer is coming back for it, then so am I and East. Besides, it feels good to be around a family that feels comfortable around each other. There aren’t any delicate eggshells. Everyone knows who is who and what they’re like, and they go with it.

“Sure,” I finally reply. I have every intention of bringing Summer back home. Seeing her family makes her happier than I think she realizes. Especially Rosie and her aunt Maria.

“Good.” Liam nods my way, clearly happy with my reply while Rowan asks, “When you marrying her? You got her raising your kid, I’m guessing it’s only a matter of time, yeah?”

Motherfucker is doing everything he can to put me on the damn spot.

“We got a puppy a few weeks back too,” I tell him in a tone that should hint at him to back off with the questions.

“That’s sweet but not what I asked,” he laughs back, pushing.

I’m about to give him a curt reply when Liam interjects, “Why don’t you mind your own damn business and put some effort in finding yourself your own girl.”

“In this town…?” he snickers back. “I’ll be lucky if there’s anyone left that isn’t related.”

I can’t help but laugh at his remark. It sounds a lot like what Summer said to me once, and the fact that they share these little titbits makes me more certain than ever that we will be back soon.

With the pub decorated and tables moved around to accommodate a small dance floor that I make a promise to myself to take Summer for a spin on, we head back to the house.

It’s chaos. Rosie is running around in a bathrobe that barely covers her ass as I walk in the door.

“Fuck sake, Ro, put it away, will ya?” Rowan yells up at her when she races up the stairs with a backward yell of “Sorry!”

Rowan disappears into the kitchen, where Easton’s fussing sounds from. I’m about to follow when Liam stops me with a slap to the shoulder. “Thanks for helping out.”

“Sure thing.”

“I like you, but man to man, you hurt my Summer and I’ll be forced to hurt you too.” Nodding up at the top of the front door where an old rifle sits, he asks, “I don’t care how pretty you are or what your lawyers can do to me. Understand?”

Although I smile and he smiles back, there’s no mistaking that his threat is very valid. I like that there’s someone else that cares about Summer almost as much as I do.

“I understand.”

The second we head into the kitchen, Summer’s eyes widen, flitting between the two of us as though she knows the exchange we’ve just had. The big rollers in her hair are about to tumble out as Easton toys with them.

“Here, let me take him,” I say, pressing a kiss to her temple. “You need some you time, and I should get him ready. Right, bud?”

“No!” Easton shakes his head at me, and the sudden movement causes him to screech. So loud that it reverberates around the room, making everyone stop to check on him.

“This isn’t right, babe,” Summer panics. “He was all right for a little while after his nap, but he’s not himself at all.”

“Why don’t you ask Becca to come have a look at him?” Maria suggests.

“Who’s Becca?”

“A friend,” Summer states. “She’s a pediatric nurse at the hospital.”

“A damn good one,” Liam adds. “Got a scholarship to some fancy college and all…pity she didn’t take it in the end.”

“Jesus,” Maria grumbles, pushing him out of the way so she can grab the house phone. “Nobody asked you for the girl’s history…” She carries on cursing him out as she dials the number off by heart. “Mandy!” she calls into the phone after a beat. “Is Becca there?”

“I’ve monitored his temp. It hasn’t gone up, but it’s not going down either.” Summer looks at me as though she’s about to full-on freak out. “East loves bananas, don’t you, baby?”

The only reply she gets in return is a snotty sob.

“I’ve mashed them, frozen them in case it’s teething pain like Google said…made pancakes…he’s not eating a single thing.”
