Rosie: ??????

The reply catches me off-guard, causing me to burst out laughing. I’m about to reply back when Natalya crosses the elevator to stand right in front of me. While I debate ignoring her, I pocket my phone again only to glance up to find her glowering at me.

“You can stop pretending now,” she says through gritted teeth, arms crossed in a way that makes her chest puff up.

“Pretending?”

With a flick of her long hair over her shoulder, “That you don’t remember me.”

“I don’t, but if I did, it wouldn’t matter either. For one, you’re with Connor, and secondly, how many other women do you think I’ve fucked since you?”

Too many, my conscience answers with a pang of regret to my chest. Even the thought seems like a betrayal to Rosie now.

Natalya’s face falls as she blotches bright red all over. Clearly fuming with me. It doesn’t stop her from coming closer though. Too fucking close for comfort. Women like her are the reason I’ve never been interested in more than one night. Not until Rosie. She really is the exception to everything. And being face-to-face with a blip from my past, only makes me more certain that I’ll never find anyone like her.

A vapid grin twists Natalya’s face. “You weren’t even good.”

The fact she thinks her remark is going to do anything other than make me laugh, makes me feel sorry for her. More than that, I feel for Connor. We may not be buddies, but I wouldn’t wish this level of cattiness on anyone. Not even my worst enemy.

Slipping my hands into my back pockets, I contain the urge to laugh as I round her. Spinning so that my eyes don’t leave her.

“Remember that,” I tell her, keeping my tone cool and unfazed. “Next time you think about following me or coming anywhere near me remember that I wasn’t even good.”

“You’re a bastard!”

“Remember that, too.” When she opens her mouth again, I cut her off. “Remember everything that’s going through your mind right now because it’s true and it’ll never change. You already got one night too many.”

The doors ping open, and without another glance, I head out. A car is already waiting for me when I reach the exit of the skyscraper. As soon as I’m in the back, and on the way back to the hotel, I call Rosie.

“What happened to a half hour?” she answers on the first ring.

“It’s getting late.”

“And you’re eager.”

“What happened to not answering?”

“I don’t need the headache,” she chuckles.

“And you miss me.”

“Nope. No, sir. No, I do not.”

The sound of her voice is heaven, and the only thing I want right now is to have her within reach. It’s been five days since I’ve left her and it seems so much longer already. I’m aching and needy to touch her and feel her breath tickle my skin.

“Do too.” I smile into the phone. “Admit it.”

A soft groan rumbles down the line, making my chest tighten. My insides coil at the gorgeous sound. So sultry that my pulse quickens with the clench of my muscles.

“How many times did you check your watch today?” she asks teasingly.

“How often did you check your phone?”

“Touché, Hotshot,” she giggles lightly with a breathy edge to her voice.

Goddamn, I should’ve kidnapped her and brought her with me. Tied her to my side every second of every day. As irrational as the thought is, every part of me agrees with a flash of heat that rolls through me.

“I watched the race this morning.”
