Maybe that’s what he wants.

He’s made no effort to disguise the fact he is happy to see me bleed.

We don’t follow the road down the peninsula; the bike tips to one side, and my eyes pop open as I shriek out loud. I’m certain the whole machine is going to slide out from under us, but my wolf is in complete control. We turn and head upward into the forest. It's a barely formed track, and the off-road bike makes easy work of the rough terrain.

We climb and weave our way deeper and deeper into the pines. It feels like forever; at times, we have to slow to barely a crawl as Raven guides us through impossibly difficult obstacles.

But then it’s like we emerge into a different world.

The treeline stops abruptly, and we’re on the top of a cliff, overlooking a wild, frothing, gunmetal sea. Wave after powerful wave seems intent on punishing the shoreline below.

I’m frozen. Every part of me numb and whipped raw by the wind. My limbs have stiffened in place, locked around his torso, still clinging to him perched on the back of his bike in an effort not to fall.

And I don’t care.

Everything hurts, and I deserve to hurt.

Raven kicks down the stand and climbs off, flicking my hands away from his shirt. It takes effort to unclench my stinging fingers when I try to fumble with the helmet. I can’t do it myself. As my hands drop back down to my sides, I notice he’s only in a t-shirt and ripped black jeans.

If he feels the cold, he doesn’t show it.

He digs his fingers through his hair while looking down at me. There’s an expression on his face that is impossible to read, but his energy bristles with chaos.

It matches the frequency of the mayhem boiling inside me.

I want more than anything for him to give me the pain I’m craving right now. For him to sink his claws and teeth in and tear me to shreds—it’s all I deserve.

The helmet I couldn’t remove on my own is pulled off and I have to blink a couple of times to readjust to the rush of light and sound. Everything feels like the volume has been turned up. It’s pure adrenaline. The ferocity of the ocean beats a relentless hollow thud at the base of the cliffs, so much so I’m certain the ground should be shaking. Howling wind bowls along the coastline, tossing the sea into a frenzy of white caps and tumbles the rolling mist through the treetops behind us.

“What do you need?” My wolf grabs my chin so tight it makes me wince. He looms over me while I still sit here straddling his bike. Quaking.

Raven understands.

He gets that right now I don’t need to talk. I’m seeking an escape from this thing eating me alive.

This is a man who is an expert in taming his own monsters.

“I don’t know.” My lips feel blue.

“Oh, I think you do.” He sneers at me.

Shame curls in my belly.

“I just—I don’t want to think,” I mumble as he pinches my chin with a punishing hold.

“That’s because you’re just a horny little slut who wants to be filled with cock.”

My eyes drop to the side.

“Isn’t that right? You’re nothing but a dirty whore who will open her legs for anyone.”

I nod. Still looking at the ground. Wreck me, shatter me, destroy me.

“Nothing more than a hole to fuck, who doesn’t even deserve to get off.”

Knots ball up in my stomach at the cruelness in his voice.

“Walking around begging for it all day from anyone with a dick who will bother to look at you. It’s about time someone taught you a lesson.”
