If my Viking and wolf don’t get their asses here immediately and either take me to one of those rooms upstairs or fuck me in the giant car we drove here in, I will scream.

To try and keep my lusty brain in check, at least while we’re in company, I gulp back some more of my drink. Then some more.

Thorne is here, and he’s not mad at me, and I’ve never felt more at ease around him.

In fact, I feel fucking fantastic. More relaxed than ever.

Poe sits across the booth, talking animatedly with her hands, but I can’t seem to make out what she’s saying. Her features turn into a Monet painting and start swimming in front of my eyes.

“Fox?” I’m pretty sure Raven’s voice says my name from somewhere far away.

My head is being turned to one side, and I clumsily try to swat at the fingers pinching my chin.

I’m fine.

A little tired.

I just need to go to the bathroom.

Swinging my legs out from the booth, I go to push past the bodies in my way.

That’s when the floor rushes up to greet me, and I only hear the roar of endless blackness.

“She’s lucky her head didn’t hit the corner of the table, Calliano. At least this way we’re only dealing with the after-effect of whatever was slipped in her drink, not a concussion.”

I’m glaring down our man Doc as he stands over Foxglove Noire’s limp body laid out on her bed.

“Do you know what it was? What caused this?”

I know. Of course I fucking know, but I can’t reveal why, or how I do. There’s murder roaming freely through my veins, knowing that my girl has been targeted like this. Out in the fucking open too.

What a way to send a message. That anywhere she goes, they can get to her.

Even if she’s right under our protection.

Especially because she’s ours.

I hate that they’ve been able to orchestrate this and I couldn’t do anything to prevent it from happening. I couldn’t stop it, or else it would crumble everything Hawke and I have been working toward for so long.

We’re so close and it guts me in half that Fox has ended up in the crossfire. Especially since I’m the asshole who dragged her back into this world by force.

Doc’s voice drags my attention back to the scene before me. “Hard to say without running full labs, but she’s responsive, just out of it. She’ll probably be high on whatever is in her system for a while.”

My fists ball tighter.

Ven stalks the far side of her bedroom, wearing a hole in the floorboards.

Ky sits on the side of the bed, looking like he’s about to lose his shit.

We all are really.

It’s one a.m., and I’m itching to go line up those responsible and execute them one by one.

“She’ll be fine, Calliano. I’d be worried if there was a head injury or broken bones to handle, but this will wear off. Her pupils are dilated and her pulse is up, but otherwise heartbeat is steady, and temperature is what I would expect.”

“Will there be any after-effects?” Ky asks.
