Ky knows this man the best out of all of us, and yet, even he’s concerned for my safety at present.

“Fuck off.” Ven spits the words out. He’s backed up against the glass overlooking the courtyard. Thorne stands his ground, even in the face of the wild creature who looks like he’d gladly tear his throat out. The two of them are one wrong move away from descending into a punch-up. Or worse.

None of them have confirmed what Raven does for the Anguis, but I’m smart enough to know that this man probably kills people with his bare hands. I’m terrified for both of them, and don’t want either to get hurt. Not like this. Not at the hands of one another.

Especially not over something that isn’t Thorne’s fault. I was the one who went to explore the club on my own while Poe was busy with clients. But all they’ve seen is footage of a man cornering me, threatening me, and have latched on to the fact I wasn’t being protected by Thorne.

He’s already being eaten up inside by that notion, but the wild, chaotic rage swirling around Raven isn’t about to listen to reason.

That much, I can tell.

“It’s not his fault.” My voice comes out unsteady. I don’t even know if it’s loud enough for the other two to hear me from all the way across the room.

There’s an immovable wall holding me tight. Ky doesn’t want to let me go near the two of them, and I’m shaking uncontrollably. If they start brawling, I think I’ll lose my mind.

“Ky, let me go.” I press my hands against his chest. Trying to get free, all the while keeping my eyes glued on the two men staring each other down.

Their energy is feral.

I know exactly how tightly wound Thorne was in the car, and I can only imagine that Raven is a thousand times worse.

He’ll want to murder someone, and right now, Thorne is standing right in the line of fire.

“Ven.” My Viking is pleading with him. There’s worry in his voice, and I know he’ll be just as concerned for the safety of the man he cares about—and who is currently putting himself in the way—as deeply as I do.

All I can feel is my pulse in my throat and a tightness in my chest that has nothing to do with the man clutching me against his body.

“Keep standing in my way, and it might be the last thing you ever fucking do.”

Oh, god. I can’t let this happen. I can’t.

“He needs to feel me.” I struggle against Ky’s punishing grip. “You and Thorne have both had a chance to touch me.” My body keeps pushing to be freed, until I hear Ky curse under his breath and his hold relents.

As soon as he lets me go, I rush to Thorne’s side. I see my wolf’s chest rising and falling, and the tumult of emotions swirls off him like a shimmer of heat radiating off a desert. It’s primal and threatens to scald me with a single touch.

My fingers wrap Thorne’s forearm to let him know I’m there, and I inch forward. Raven’s eyes consume me, with blown-out pupils as I approach just a little nearer.

I’m not afraid of him, as such.

But I am more scared than anything I’ve ever experienced to think of the worst happening between these two men.

“Hey.” I breathe. Keeping my fingers lightly against Thorne’s arm as I search Raven’s face.

This feels like one of those moments I’m sure I’ve heard survivalists talk about, where you simply make yourself small and non-threatening and allow the wild beast to scent you.

Either that, or you get torn to pieces by savage jaws tearing straight through flesh.

I’m hoping to God it’s the first option.

“Are you in on it?” He vibrates with rage. Hurling the words at the man beside me.

Thorne clenches both fists.

“You left her unguarded and alone. Are Hawke and the rest of them in on it, too?”

“Ven, of course not.” I hear Ky from closer behind me, where he’s followed.

Thorne makes a menacing noise beside me.
