We invited the rest of the girls to join us, but Bailey crashed early. Beth was watching the triplets so Sarah could join us, and Skylar took Caleb and Cameron home with her to give Caterina a break. As it was, Henley still had a pretty full house for her bachelorette party. Her sister Devlyn was here, grumbling about what a lame party it was. Scribe’s sisters were sitting at the small table going over the cards Phoebe brought with her, while Daphne sat on the floor with Wick as Wrenly cuddled next to me.

The movie was getting good when I felt someone tap me on my shoulder. Turning, I saw King tilt his head, wanting to speak to me privately. Carefully getting up, I laid Wrenly’s head on a pillow, then covered her up with a blanket. Poor kid didn’t make it past the first song before she zonked out. After handing Henley the remote, I walked over to King. “Thought you were in town with Scribe and the others?”

“I was. We’ve got a problem.”

Nodding, I followed him out of the media room and into church to find the rest of my brothers all sitting anxiously as someone drummed their fingers on the table. Closing the door behind me, I took my seat and waited for King to speak when Scribe spoke up, “Have you heard anything yet?”

“No,” King said, leaning forward. “Look, guys, until he checks in, I know as much as you all do.”

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“Enigma sent an emergency text,” Gunner growled.

“What did it say?”

Gunner slid his phone toward me. Picking it up, I read.

Enigma: Moving to Plan B.

Damn. This wasn’t good.

Enigma was guarding Sugar. Had been for a few days now from what King told me. Everyone knew Sugar’s story. We watched it play out for years before Sugar found the courage to leave the bastard.

“What about the boys?” I asked, sliding Gunner’s phone back to him.

“The boys are with Sugar’s parents in Louisiana. I’ve notified Mike, and he’s sending a patrol car to watch over the Potter house just in case the fucker shows up there.”

“This is bullshit,” Gunner cursed. “We need to be out there looking for them.”

“Where would we look, Cord?” Pyro sighed, hanging his head. “Whatever Plan B is, we have to trust Enigma. He wouldn’t let anything happen to Sugar.”

“Chase is right, Cord,” King added. “Enigma knows these mountains like the back of his hand. If anyone can keep her safe, it’s him.”

Scribe smirked, shaking his head. “Actually, I’m thinking it might be the other way around. You all know Enigma doesn’t enjoy roughing it. Can you imagine him without running water? The brother freaks the fuck out when he sees a damn spider. No. My gut is whatever Plan B is. It’s Sugar’s plan.”

“Well, whoever’s plan it is, we continue on as if nothing is wrong. If Sugar’s ex is in the area, he will be watching,” King admitted, then added, “So, that means tomorrow goes on as planned. We make sure Scribe and Henley have the wedding of their dreams. Got it?”

What was supposed to be a joyful occasion was turning into anything but.

Chapter Fifteen

Frank

It was my brother’s wedding day.

Not just anyone’s wedding, either. It was my brother Scribe’s wedding. The born-again hippie brother of the club. The one who vowed never to fall in love, to never marry, to never stay true to one woman. Then he met the beautiful Henley Never. The one woman on the planet that rivaled Scribe’s dashing good looks and kind heart.

I thought it fitting that two of the nicest people in the world found each other, and, in a few hours, they would be bound together in wedded bliss.

That was if anyone could find Scribe.

“What do you mean you haven’t seen him?” King sneered, looking at Gunner who smirked sheepishly then shrugged his shoulders.

“Don’t know what to tell ya, Callum. Haven’t seen him all morning.”

“He was here last night. He couldn’t have just disappeared. He wouldn’t do that to Henley. Has anyone seen him at all today?” King asked, looking at the brothers standing around, oblivious.

“Has anyone thought to ask Bailey?” I offered, trying to be helpful.
