“Rosewood Memorial is the only hospital within a hundred miles that has a fully functioning NICU center that serves three states. Why would they cut funding?”

“Who knows?” I shrugged, grimacing when my stomach rolled.

Before I could utter another word, I bent over, reaching for my trashcan and I threw up in it.

Fucking great.

Dr. Steiner got to his feet, and seconds later, I heard water running. Once I emptied my stomach, I sat back up and he handed me a glass of water.

“How far along are you?”

“A few weeks. I haven’t had the time to check.”

“Well,” the man said, looking around. “You’re in the perfect place and I’ve got nothing better to do.”

The next thing I knew, I was lying on a table while Dr. Steiner placed the ultrasound wand on my stomach.

“Nice tat,” he said before turning to the screen, moving the wand around my stomach.

“Yeah. I have a thing for Alice in Wonderland. The white rabbit was my favorite.”

“I was partial to Winnie the Pooh myself.”

I smirked at that.

“Well, you would be right, Dr. James. Fetuses are measuring about six weeks along.”

Sitting up, I glared. “I’m sorry. Did you just say fetuses?”

Dr. Steiner nodded, turning the ultrasound screen. “Two babies.”

I vaguely heard someone knocking on the door before they entered.

I was pregnant with two babies.

Two.

Twins.

“What the hell is going on in here?”

Upon hearing the familiar voice, my head snapped to find Frank standing in the doorway with Jessica beside him. Her face was full of mirth as she settled in to watch the show.

“Not that it’s any of your business, little brother, but I’m seeing how far along the pretty doctor is.”

“WHAT?!” Frank yelled, looking from his brother to me.

Frank never moved but he stared at me. Well, not so much me, but my stomach. The second I realized what he was seeing, I paled as his eyes widened.

“My white rabbit.”

Sitting up, I hurriedly lowered my shirt.

Shit. This was not good.

I didn’t need a genie to tell me Frank just remembered everything from New Year’s Eve. “Frank, I can explain.”

“It was you. All this time and you said nothing.”
