“Sorry, I’m nervous,” she whispered.

“Shut that thing off,” Drew instructed Alyssa. “We know the rest of the way.”

Drew stopped his truck and waited for the construction worker to flip their stop sign.

“You don’t need to be nervous, Vivian,” Alyssa told her. “Everyone is going to love you.”

“They are,” Drew confirmed as he let off the brake. “What’s not to love?”

Everything she owned was in the back of the truck.

“It’ll be a good home,” Vivian confirmed, even as a tear slipped down her cheek.

“Hey,” Callum brushed away the tear and urged her to lean on him, “you okay?”

“Yeah. It’s just a lot, you know?” She watched red and orange trees out the window. “I’m going to miss Rafe.”

Callum smiled. “I know, but we can always visit.”

She nodded. “It’s not just that.”

“I know.” He squeezed her shoulder.

Sitting straighter, she pushed away the dark thoughts and tried to look to the future. “This will be good.”

Her mate nodded. “Yes. It will.”

Soft rock played on the radio.

“I think you’ll like the cabin, but if you want, we can make a tree fort in the backyard.”

She laughed. This man was her everything.

“Why make a new one?” Drew asked from the front. “Pretty sure the one we had as kids is still in the forest.”

“Yeah, but it won’t be nearly as cool as Vivian’s was. You should have seen this thing. It was more house than treehouse.”

“I have good friends.” Her smile melted. “Had.”

“Silly sunflower,” Callum clucked. “They have an open invitation to come visit. Besides, you’re about to make a lot of new friends.”

“I am excited about the pack. I hope they like me.”

“No doubts,” Callum said, and kissed her nose. “I have no doubt they’ll love you, almost as much as I love you.”

“Oh, God,” Drew moaned. “Is this what he’s like now?”

Vivian laughed, but Callum flipped his alpha off.

The alpha-beta relationship in her pack had never been easy and companionable like it was between Callum and Drew. She enjoyed this dynamic much better than the tension and deceit Thatcher was known for.

It would take five minutes longer to get to her new home, but as she leaned against Callum, she knew the wait would be worth it.
