I know I can easily devote my life to this woman. I’ll do anything to give her the world. To even be a part of her life will be a privilege.

Withdrawing, I continue to clean her body. Despite her condition, I can’t help but admire her curves, the stretch marks on her stomach and thighs. Though bruises and deep wounds cover her, I adore the paleness of her skin and the rose returning to her cheeks as she begins to warm up.

I hesitate at removing her remaining undergarments. But it seems better to remove the filthy pieces rather than leave her in discomfort.

I complete cleaning her and after my crude attempt at playing doctor, I cross to my dresser to find the softest clothing I own: my gray sweatpants, black T-shirt, and warm wool socks.

Taking her into my arms, I wrap her own around my neck. I nearly stumble when I feel them tighten around me. My head bends down towards her, and I feel deep pleasure when I smell her wrapped in my own scent.

I walk her over to my bed and lay her down. She takes up the whole thing, but it doesn’t stop my desire to climb in with her; my craving to lie there holding her. Ignoring the thought, I tuck her into the warmth and lay another blanket across her.

Everything in my body screams that my life’s purpose is to care for this woman. More than my promise to protect and serve or any other vow I’ve made.

It starts now, and I won’t let myself fail her.
