It’s sweet of him to go to such lengths for me, and the earnest look on his face decides it. I really am hungry. Something about Griffin’s eager look makes me agree.

Back in the kitchen, I can hear him moving about. I sit there sipping on my water and staring out the window while he rustles around. Then he’s back at my side with a container.

“Anything in here you can’t eat? Nothin’s gonna harm you?”

I realize he wants me to read the nutrition label. I glance over it before responding.

“No,” I say, smiling as much as I can.

“Perfect. It’s a protein powder, which you could probably use. Are fruits okay?”

I nod.

He’s still smiling when he turns around this time. He’s like a puppy. Eager to please.

I tune out the sounds coming from the kitchen and study the room I’m in. It appears to be a studio apartment with the living room in front of me. No TV though. A few books are stacked on the coffee table. The bathroom is to my left, and the kitchen is behind a wall where a few photos hang.

Looking around, there doesn’t seem to be a single personal item about. Everything is simple and streamlined. The few things here are either necessities or what feels like set dressing. None are personal; they’re pictures of sports icons and other generic items.

Griffin appears with another glass in his hand.

For the third time since I’ve awakened, he kneels beside me. Reaching out, he motions for the drink in my hand, which I release tentatively before he hands me the chilled smoothie glass. Then he turns his full attention back to me.

Goddess, he’s attractive.

“So, do you think you can try and tell me your name?”

I think about lying to him for a moment, but the thought disappears faster than it formed.

“Juliana.”
