“They what?” She gasps, her anger mounting. “They just sat there and said nothing?”

“Well, no. Not exactly.”

"So . . . you ran."

"I did not run!" I defend.

“Naomi Elizabeth Ann Hall,” Selene scolds.

“What?” I say defensively. “No one was even sober enough to be having those types of conversations, and I couldn’t handle any more. I left. I did not run.”

“Runner." She snickers, picking up a piece of bacon. "Speak of the devils. Look who just walked in."

My head spins to the entryway to spot Bex and Alvie walking up to the host stand.

“Time for that conversation it seems.” Selene is already up and bouncing over to them before I can stop her.

I watch, in horror, as she has an animated conversation with the couple before turning back to us and strutting over like a contestant who just won America's Next Top Model.

"Look who I found!" She giggles as the trio approaches us. "Bex and Alvie are going to join for brunch. I'm so glad they put us at one of the big tables this morning."

Gunnar's smirk has me glaring at him.

When Selene sits down next to me, she leans in close and whispers in my ear, "You owe me for this."

"Morning, everyone," Alvie greets a little too loudly, pulling out a chair for Bex to sit in before settling in next to me himself. "How'd everyone sleep?"

"I would keep voices down this morning. These girls went hard last night." Gunnar chuckles.

"Oh?" Alvie smirks.

"I tried to stop them, but I think they snuck a bottle of vodka out of the cooler when I wasn't looking."

"We ended up turning in early," Bex says, looking pointedly at me with sympathy I don’t like in her eyes.

"What are y'all's plans for the rest of the weekend?" Selene asks before taking a big bite of her waffle.

"We're thinking of checking out early and going back to the ranch today." Bex glances at her husband. "Alvie's missing his new puppy."

"Milkshake is an important part of the family now, Bex." Alvie scowls.

"I'd love to meet her sometime," I say, looking at Alvie before stuffing my face alongside my bestie.

“You should come out and visit then,” he replies easily. “I’m sure Milkshake would adore you.”

“Yeah,” I agree quietly. “That could be good.”

"You should leave with them then!" Selene says a little too enthusiastically.

"Selene," Gunnar warns with a furrow in his brow.

"What? It would be perfect!" she exclaims. “We were already planning to stay for the week anyway. So, your bag is already packed! Might as well spend a week at the ranch instead.”

"We would love to have you stay with us if you want to," Bex offers.

"Really?" My head whips in her direction.

"Of course. You're always welcome at the ranch."
