“It has been a while since I’ve just let loose like that.”

“So, I should give them a call tomorrow and set something up for when they’re in the area?”

“Sure, why not?”

“Great. Just so long as you don’t go meeting some other man you like better than me,” Stefano smirked, and I shook my head playfully from side to side.

“Not going to happen.”

He ran his fingers through my hair, cupping the side of my neck and pulled me in for a passionate, sultry kiss. Blindly, I placed my wine glass on the side table and kissed him back, running my fingers through his hair. That seemed to encourage him as he angled his body over mine, guiding me to lay back on the cushion of the couch, covering me with his body as he deepened the kiss.

Chapter 5

Mira

My peaceful sleep was interrupted by the loud obnoxious ringing of Stefano’s alarm.

“What time is it?” I groaned, having not yet succeeded in forcing my eyes open more than little slits in the bright morning sun.

“Seven. Go back to sleep, amore mio. I will call you later once I’m home.”

“No. I wanted to wake up to have breakfast with you before you left. I even had Bianca make some of your favorite pastries.”

“You can’t even get your eyes open. Did I wear you out last night? Rest.” He chuckled, leaning down to kiss my temple.

“No. No. I’m up. I’m up.” I slung the blankets off and threw my legs over the edge of the bed, letting the momentum bring me to stand before my eyes were even fully focused.”

“Just give me a couple of minutes to freshen up and I’ll be ready for breakfast.”

“Alright. Since you’re already up.” I caught a glimpse at Stefano’s amused smile as I closed the bathroom door.

By the time Stefano and I went down for breakfast, the whole house smelled of warm pastries and strong coffee.

“One of my favorite smells. I will miss your housekeeper’s pastries when I’m gone.”

“Is that the only thing you’ll miss?” I bumped my shoulder into his arm as we made our way to the dining room, but we were the only ones there.

“I’m sure there’s a thing or two more that I’ll miss.” Stefano smirked, tipping my chin up so that he could plant a sweet kiss on my lips.

We sat at the table, lost in each other as well as the good food but once our meal was done, Stefano sighed and reluctantly stood. "I should be going. The jet is waiting and once I'm home, I'm supposed to attend a couple of meetings this afternoon.”

My shoulders slumped as I let out a disappointed breath. “I wish you didn't have to go.”

“As do I, amore mio.”

“Maybe I should ride with you to the airport. We could say goodbye on the tarmac.”

“Oh, my love, if you accompany me, I'm afraid that I wouldn't have the strength to pull myself away from you and get on that plane. It's better for us to say goodbye here before my willpower fades any more than it already has.”

“I'm going to miss you. I've gotten pretty used to having you around regularly these last couple of weeks.”

“I know what you mean but I'll make sure that it isn’t too long before we see each other in person again. Until then we can call and video chat every day. I refuse to go one day without seeing that beautiful face of yours.”

I smiled, blushing slightly which was unlike me. He leaned down and I stood on my tiptoes as our lips met.

Stefano broke the kiss first, taking a step back and gently cupping my cheek, his thumb brushed over my skin as he stared at me like he was trying to commit every inch of my face to memory. "finché non ti rivedrò, amore mio."

"Goodbye, for now." The way he stared at me took my breath away.
