Sitting beside the table, I watch as the hours tick by with the doc tending to each of Gabriel’s wounds. One in the shoulder, one in his flank, and one that narrowly missed his heart.
The one that would have fucking broke mine if it were an inch to the right.
“Now we wait.” The vet pats my hand before replacing the bag of saline hung from the IV pole.
The boys leave me alone with Gabriel. The moment they are out the room, a heavy weight hits me, and a tear rolls down my cheek.
They left us so I could say my goodbyes in peace.
“I need you to fight for me Gabriel. I can’t fucking lose you.” Tears uncontrollably stream out of my eyes. “If you fucking love me…” I sob so violently hard that I am unable to finish my words.
This isn’t the life I wanted for you.

I’ll do anything if you make it through this.

GABRIEL
Taking a deep breath in, it immediately expels from me as a groan.
Fuck.
It hurts.
Everything fucking hurts.
Struggling to open my eyes, I can’t place my surroundings. It’s clearly a bedroom, but not one I’ve ever seen before.
How the fuck did I get here?
What the fuck happened?
Fighting against the pain, I push myself up from the mattress and manage to sit up.
The villa.
The gun shots.
Laying on the floor, sheltering Sofia’s body.
Fuck…Sofia.
“Sofia!” I yell her name while trying to push myself to my feet.
“Thank fucking God.” She races into the room and wraps her arms painfully tight around me. The pain is unbearable, and I cry out in pain. “Shit. Sorry.”
“You’re okay—” The only words I’m able to muster as she gets me back into the bed.
“Because of you, sugar.” She presses her lips to mine, and I close my eyes while breathing her in. Sleep hits me before she manages to pull her lips from me.

“I’m not going to keep having this argument with you.” Sofia’s voice carries from outside the bedroom. “I’m telling you that this is what I fucking want.”
“You know I can’t let you do that” Alejandro recants.
