“Yes, Miss Debari? You have a question?”

“When do you feed me bonbons?”

He chuckled. “Why am I not surprised that even though you’re a complete newbie with this sort of play, you know about the benefits of chocolate during aftercare?”

I giggled and came clean. “When Father learned that Doran had been communicating with world rulers via email instead of carrier pigeon, the internet came to Emberly Isles.”

“Ahhh, that explains where my little princess has been getting all her information,” he said, his arm tightening around me as he leaned to one side. When he straightened, I saw he’d picked up a chocolate bar from the table next to the chair we shared.

While he began to unwrap it, I shook my head. “Not exactly. None of us were allowed much computer time and we didn’t have access to much of anything at all, but we did receive Kindles after alerting our parents to how many trees could be saved if we read eBooks instead of paperbacks.”

“How conscientious of you and your sisters.” He paused in his preparation of the chocolate bar, his right brow arching as he added, “I’m guessing none of you bothered to educate the king and queen about the exact genres those eBooks offered.”

“You guess correctly, but in my defense, I have far more than erotic books on mine. I even downloaded War and Peace?—”

“Really? So, tell me, Princess, what’s it about?” he asked, breaking off a square of chocolate.

“It’s about war and peace, of course,” I said then opened my mouth like a baby bird.

Max laughed and shook his head. “You’re such a smartass.”

I almost forgot about the chocolate when he ran his fingertip over my upper lip. Almost. It was such a sweet gesture, I was pretty sure I’d not mind if he continued forever, but seriously, he was holding chocolate!

After he’d fed me half the bar, I shook my head when he was about to break off another piece. “I’m good.” Then I realized while I really felt good, I’d done nothing to show my appreciation. “Actually, I’m not.”

“What do you need?” he asked, that line I’d erased earlier appearing on his forehead.

“Your cock?—”

“Hard limit, remember,” he broke in to say and I rolled my eyes.

“I have never once read about a man who lists no penetration as a hard limit.”

“Those books you’ve alluded to are fiction. And I never said never. I said I’d not fuck you until we exchanged our vows. I might not approve of most things your parents ask of you, but this one I agree with. Not because I don’t want you, but because I know you. I have no doubt you are ready and willing at this moment, but when you slip into that wedding gown, there would be a part of you that felt unworthy of wearing white. If I didn’t know the very heart of you, believe me, I’d be balls deep inside you right now.”

I opened my mouth to argue, then closed it as something he said had made my heart skip a beat. “Vows? Wedding gown? So we are doing it? I mean, I know we’ve sort of joked about it… but… you… you really want to marry me? Not because you feel like you have to, but because you really want me?” Not giving him time to answer, I rushed to add, “I’m warning you, I don’t think I’ll ever be like my mother and just allow you to do whatever you want. I want to go places with you and not be left alone again. I-I can be a trifle headstrong and have opinions and a voice–”

Laying a finger across my lips, he smiled. “I wouldn’t want you to be anyone other than who you are. I’ve never wanted anything more in my life than to have you at my side for the rest of my life.” He chuckled and shook his head, looking around. “Just for the record, I never intended on proposing to you?—”

“Oh, then you don’t?—”

This time, he didn’t use his fingers to silence me, he used them to reach beneath the blanket to swat my ass.

“Princess, you’re going to learn that while I will never attempt to silence your voice, you really need to stop interrupting and let me finish my sentences.”

Not about to make that error again, I nodded vigorously and used a finger to ‘zip’ my mouth closed.

He smiled, his eyes lighting with the laughter he didn’t allow free. “I meant, proposing to you while in the club, in a scene with you half-naked on my lap. It’s not the most romantic place?—”

Consequences be damned. I couldn’t let him think like that. “It’s the most romantic place I can imagine. Being in your lap, naked or otherwise, is the best place on earth to me.”

He was gracious enough not to swat me, but he did quirk his brow.

“Oh, um, please, you may continue.”

“Why the hell not?” he said. “We’ve not done anything the traditional way since we’ve reunited. Princess Debari, you captured my heart from the moment you came into the world, and though I don’t deserve you, and I’m not sure you won’t drive me to an early grave, I’ll go as the happiest man on earth if you’d become my wife, my partner, my future queen. Will you marry me and rule together with me?”

I had my arms up, ready to ring his neck when something occurred to me. “Will we still play together?”
