“You’re gonna blow your balls off if you keep sneezing like that.” Alexander drops his phone on the counter and goes to the fridge for a water.

“Thanks.” Oliver fights back another sneeze. “I’m gonna go shower off all this fucking dander.”

“Hurry up. Seth has some information he wants to give all of us,” I say grabbing a mug from the cabinet and filling it with fresh coffee.

“I didn’t say we needed a fucking meeting.” Seth looks up from his chopping.

“No. But I did.” I take a sip of the near-black liquid, glad Seth made it extra strong today. It’s early, and from the look in Seth’s eyes I’m not gonna like whatever he’s going to tell us.

“Hey, ho!” Colt calls with a wave after yanking the door shut behind him as he comes inside.

“Have a good night?” I chuckle. Colt’s been working on a new security system for a strip club. We’ve been in worse places.

“Finished the job. Trained their security team on everything and they are ready to go. Stuck around to be sure they didn’t have any questions.” He pulls out an envelope from his back pocket and hands it over to me. “Paid in full.”

I bring the envelop to my nose and sniff.

“Did one of the girls keep it in her bra for you?”

He laughs. “Man, the whole place smells like that. The girls are sweet, too. Good thing they have the new security system to keep them safe. Some of those men down there are real assholes.”

Colt would lay his shirt over a puddle to keep a woman from stepping in the muck. Of course, his concern was for the ladies that work at the club.

“Did you make any friends?” Dylan asks, wiggling his eyebrows as he plops down at the table.

“No, I don’t judge those girls for what they do, but I wouldn’t let my woman do it,” Colt explains.

“They don’t have to be your woman for you to enjoy their company.” Carter takes a seat across the table from Dylan.

Colt thinks about that for a moment then shakes his head. “If I enjoy a woman like you enjoy a woman, she’s gonna be mine for more than a night.”

“He’s old-fashioned like that. Leave him be.” I go to the cabinet and pull out the plates we need for breakfast.

“While we’re waiting, tell us what the problem is.” I take the wooden spoon from Seth and lay it on the counter beside the pan where the vegetables are simmering away.

“Got a call from Hunter about an hour ago.” Seth hooks his hands on his hips, his casual frown deepening. “Seraphina Snow is home from college.”

“Arthur’s daughter?” Arthur Snow had been a good man. When I’d met him, he was on his last rotation before being discharged for good. He’d been a leader in my unit, someone my twenty-year-old self looked up to. We’d kept in touch over the years; I was at his wedding when he married the love of his life. I’d been invited to the baptism of his daughter when she came along, but by then I was stationed halfway around the world.

“Yeah.” Seth nods, his jaw tightening. “She’s staying with that witch.”

“Vivian.” Even saying her name sends anger rolling through me. I’d never met the woman, but from the description Arthur had given she was a real piece of work. I’ll never understand why he married her after his first wife died.

“Is that the problem? You look angrier than usual.” Carter yawns.

“No. I couldn’t care less about that,” Seth snaps. “The witch apparently has arranged a marriage between Seraphina and Princeton.”

“Aaron?” My insides tighten. No girl should be strapped to that asshole or his family. Arthur got involved in a lot of shady shit after he left the military. The Princeton family has lived in the darkness for generations.

“So what? She’s getting married,” Oliver pipes in with a roll of his eyes.

“She’s not though. Hunter got a call from Vivian Snow,” Seth continues.

“Her mother?”

“Her stepmother,” I correct. “What did Vivian want?”

“She wants the girl dead.” Seth drops the news. “Hunter doesn’t know details. Just that he’s supposed to get it done within the next week. He picked her up a few hours ago. He wants to bring her here.”
