So, I’ve been stuck here in the house by myself all afternoon. Except for Alexander, and I’m not sure I’m ready to encounter him again on my own.

There’s something about him, the quietness of his soul, that pulls at me. I want to climb into him, to hold onto him, but there’s more to him than what he lets me see.

Besides, if I irritate him, he’ll put me back in that cage of his.

And at this point, I’m not sure I’d fight him all that much.

These men have twisted me one way and another. Any promises I made to not let them get in my head were broken days ago. Now, I’m trying to keep them from seeping into my heart.

“What has you so worried?” Lucas walks into the living area from the back door. He pushes his sunglasses on top of his head.

“Nothing.” I put down the book I was flipping through mindlessly. “What are you doing back so soon?”

He drops his gear bag near the stairs and comes over to me, sitting on the coffee table.

“You were worrying about something. You had half your lip between your teeth. Now, tell me what’s going on.” He pulls my legs from beneath me and traps my knees between his.

“Do you guys always share one woman?” I blurt the question out before it has a chance to hit any filter.

His salt-and-pepper eyebrows shoot up. “That’s what you were worried about?”

“No. That’s what I was thinking about. I mean, I’ve never… all of you.” Heat takes over my face and I have to look away from him.

“Has anyone made you feel shame for what you’ve done while with us?”

“No. No one.” And it’s true. Not one of them has made a derogatory comment about anything, but that doesn’t change that I’ve fucked or kissed every one of them. What sort of woman does that?

“There’ve been a few women that we’ve all shared for a time.” He gestures for me to get up from the armchair, then takes my seat before pulling me back into his lap. With a gentle touch of his hand, he guides my head to his shoulder.

I sigh.

I know these men have had a whole lifetime before me. And a lot of it was dangerous and violent. But when Lucas holds me like this, I can’t fathom this man being anything more than this.

“Three to be exact. None of them lasted. We’re too different, the seven of us.” He rests his chin on my head. “It was too much for them. Too contradictory.”

“And me?” I tense. Almost afraid to look at him. What if I see something like pity in his eyes?

“You are the first woman who’s been able to handle all of us. Even Seth has taken to you, and he doesn’t really take to anyone.” His chest rumbles with his laugh. “How is your ass, by the way?” He pats me.

“Fine.” I push his hand away.

“I’ll tell you this much, Seraphina. Seth has never punished one of our girls like that before. He only goes hard on those he cares about.”

“What happened to those girls?” I flatten my hand against his chest, feeling the strong muscles of his pec.

“They left us.” He brushes my hair from my cheek, tucking it behind my ear. “Are you thinking the same thing? Have we corrupted you too quickly?”

I push up from his chest and line our gazes up. “You haven’t corrupted me.”

He grins. “Is that all that’s been bothering you? If you’ve ruined yourself by being with us?”

“I can’t hide here forever, Lucas.” I touch on the subject I’ve been dreading the past three days. With them getting more protective and less chatty, it’s left me wondering if anything will ever be resolved.

He frowns. “No, you can’t.” He rests his hand on my knee. “Vivian has put a stop to the search for you. She’s pushing to have you declared dead.”

“Dead?” My mouth dries. “That would give her complete control.”

“It would. But it takes years before a judge would agree to have someone declared dead. You’ve only been here for a few weeks.”
