Yawning, I let my eyes close as I inhaled his bay rum aftershave. “Back atcha, cowboy.”

I sure wished I could keep him. He was exactly the kind of dominant lover I’d always wanted, and I was itching to discover more.

No way was I going to find another man like him, and I was afraid he’d ruined me for anyone else. Then again, although I loved what he did to my body, he wasn’t husband material. Maybe it wouldn’t be so hard to let him go when the week was over. Lord knew, neither of us needed the complication.

Before I drifted off, I said, “We need another box of condoms.”

“Never fear.” He kissed the sweet spot under my ear, sending a weak pulse of arousal into my wrecked pussy. “I’ll take care of everything.”

Savva’s kisses and the smoky scent of grilled beef woke me from my nap. I blinked and sat up, then stretched my sore body. He was already dressed in a soft gray T-shirt and a pair of cotton sleep pants, making me miss the view.

“Are you hungry for me, or for supper?” he asked, feathering kisses down my neck.

“Yes.”

Laughing, he held a silk robe open for me. “Your aged ribeye with horseradish, macaroni and cheese, greens, and steak fries awaits.”

My lips parted in surprise as I slid my arms into the sleeves. It was the exact meal I’d mentioned over lunch, and I couldn’t believe he remembered. “Really?”

“Of course. You asked for it.”

“Wow. Thank you.”

Between watching his behavior during the funding meeting and his obvious attention, I was beginning to think I’d had it all wrong about him. Well, I’d been right about him being a fantastic lover, but the rest… Guilt soured my stomach for misjudging him so harshly.

Worse, I knew better than to believe gossip. Maybe he wasn’t a forever sort of guy, but I hadn’t given him a fair chance to show me what he was really like.

Before I could apologize, he said, “I also took the liberty of including ostkaka for us to share.”

“I don’t know what that is. Maybe cake?”

“Indeed.” He took my hand and led me into the suite’s main room, where the table was already laid with our meals under polished steel cloches. “It’s much like an American cheesecake and usually served with summer berries.”

“Om nom. I love cheesecake. Thank you.”

“My pleasure.” He held my chair, and once I was seated, he laid a thick cloth napkin on my lap.

When he sat across from me, I cleared my throat and tried to control the flush of embarrassment rising in my cheeks. “Savva, I owe you an apology.”

“Oh?” He lifted the cover from my plate and set it aside. “For what?”

“I…” I took a sip from my wineglass to wash the solid lump from my throat. “I misjudged you really badly, and thought you were a careless playboy. It wasn’t nice for me to do that when I didn’t know you.”

He smiled and lifted his glass in a toast. “May I tell you a secret?”

“Um… sure?”

“I imagine you learned of me from the tabloids, correct?” When I nodded, he continued, “Most of the stories are planted.”

“That’s awful! Who would do such a thing?”

“Me.” He winked and took a bite of his steak, then dabbed his lips with his napkin. “My assistant will be pleased to hear his image manipulation fooled such an intelligent woman. He’s also quite adept with green screen photography and can place me anywhere in the world with whomever he wants.”

“Okay…” I rested my hands on the table and leaned toward him. “At the risk of sounding out of the loop, what danged fool notions are running through that pretty head of yours?”

Savva laughed and toasted me with his wineglass. “Perhaps it sounds foolish on the surface, but I have very good reason for it.”

“And?”
