Stubbornly, I hesitated, but even as I did my bottom crawled with the reminder of what had happened the last time I’d refused to get in this wretched thing.

As though he could read my mind, he came up behind me and murmured, “We don’t need another lesson so soon, do we, Princess?”

Shuddering slightly, I lifted a leg and set it down inside the tub. At once I was gripped by the sensation of lukewarm water. I was about to pull my leg out when the prince scooped me up and set me down inside.

Heedless for a moment, I scowled at him and slapped at the water, making it rise and splash him. Then realizing what I had done, I shrank back, afraid of his harsh, punishing hand.

But either our time in bed or the promises he’d whispered to me had gentled him some, because he merely laughed. “It would have been plenty warm if you’d done as you were bid earlier, Princess.”

My scowl only deepened, and I crossed my arms, silently fuming. It was a few moments before I realized that, though I was a little chilly, perhaps, no further damage had been done. I had not died from being in contact with the water. Again, my earlier question filled my mind: Had we Merpeople been wrong? Perhaps those with legs could withstand a little water?

“None of that, now,” he scolded lightly. “Here, I’ll help you wash up.”

I had no idea what he meant and could only watch as he took a brown bar of something in his hand, dipping both beneath the water, then brushing the bar across my skin. I winced in anticipation, but instead of the roughness I expected, it was soft and smooth. I relaxed and began to enjoy the sensation of him washing me.

He was very thorough, especially as he soaped up my breasts, leaving the newly hardened nipples bursting through patches of suds. Then he ordered me to lift one leg, then the other.

I could feel a ball of passion unfurling in the pit of my belly as he carefully made me clean.

“Lean forward, please.”

I obeyed, but caught his lips with mine, slipping my tongue inside his mouth. I clutched his shoulder, dampening his shirt in my desire. When we broke apart, I was delighted to see the hungry look in his eyes, one that undoubtedly mirrored my own.

“We shouldn’t risk you getting dirty again.” He gave me a frown as he wagged his finger at me.

I’m getting the hang of this communicating without words, I thought, grinning as I leaned back and beckoned him with the crook of my finger.

“Oh, fuck it.” He tore his shirt off and tossed the garment aside, then climbed in beside me, pulling me into another kiss.

It quite literally took my breath away.

CHAPTER 9

Damian

It had been a busy, productive day. I’d actually listened during the meeting this morning and offered some suggestions that had my father congratulating me once we were alone.

“I think you’re finally coming into the man you’re destined to be, my son.”

His smile filled me with pride, and yet, I didn’t feel like I could take full credit. “I’ve never been happier. But it’s her, Father.”

“Ah.” His eyes twinkled knowingly. “A good woman does wonders for a man. Do you think it might be time to make it official?”

I rapped my fingers on the table, deep in thought. Then I explained my predicament to him.

“A princess, eh?” His smile, already large before, now looked like it might tear his face in two. “You’ve hit the motherload with that one, my boy!”

You have no idea. Just earlier that day I had spanked her ass crimson and made her ride my cock, but backwards so I could see my handprints on her skin and give a touch-up where needed.

“Have you heard any word of a missing princess?”

“Not that I can recall, but there are several kingdoms far from ours.”

I nodded. I’d thought as much. “You have men that could look into it?”

“Of course.” His expression turned thoughtful, but he said nothing more.

He didn’t need to. I knew precisely what he was thinking, because hard as I tried, I couldn’t shut off the thoughts myself. If she was missing, they would surely want her back. No matter what corner of the world she’d come from, she would be missed. I had no doubt of it.
