“What? Oh! Yes.” I come back to Earth and reach into the drawer for a foil packet. “Sorry I forgot…” I trail off as I take in the sight in front of me—a literal Adonis kneeling on the bed, his lips stretched in a feral smile and his chin glistening with my own release.

Theo slides the condom on before stretching out on his side next to me, a hand on my hip to roll me towards him. “I want to see you, Sunshine.” His voice is husky with need as he pulls me on top of his body.

I straddle his hips and take his thick cock in my hand, squeezing as I run my palm along its length a few times. “Keep that up and we’ll be done much sooner than I planned.” He grabs my hips, lifting me easily. I line him up with my entrance and ease myself down, eyes closed, concentrating on nothing but the sensation of him inside me. The fullness, the relief of finally having him fill me.

A deep groan echoes through the room. “You feel amazing, Sophie.” Theo wraps his arms around my back, pulling me close for a kiss. I oblige before sitting back up, my hands braced against his perfect chest as I lift and lower myself.

What starts off as a slow, almost lazy pace, builds up speed until I can’t keep up, my thighs burning with delicious heat. Theo grabs my hips and pumps into me from below while I clutch and claw at his chest. “Come for me,” he commands and I know another orgasm is hovering, just out of reach. “I’m…so close. Tell me you’re almost there, Sunshine. Please.” Each word punctuated by the slamming of his hips into me.

“Almost…there,” I gasp out. The breath is knocked out of me when Theo flips me onto my back, never losing our connection. He thrusts into me, faster and deeper. I don’t hold back the cry that escapes me at this new sensation. His cock fills me, setting fire to all my nerve endings with each forceful movement.

“Fuck me. Sunshine, I need you to come.” Sweat glistens on his forehead and our breath is ragged.

My orgasm builds in my chest, in my spine, in every cell of my body. Oxygen catches in my lungs and I soar to an unbearable high, climbing higher and higher without a way to come back down. Theo reaches between us and slides his thumb over my clit, sending me exploding over the edge and free-falling into my climax just as he groans and his own orgasm hits him. He swells inside me, triggering another satisfying little ripple through me. Not a full orgasm, but the sated waves of a spent body.

I try to wriggle out from under him, but don’t get far before his arms are wrapped tight around me. “You promised not to run away.”

“I wasn’t running away.” I laugh, but snuggle deeper into his arms. I don’t know how long this is going to last—an hour, an afternoon, a weekend—but I’m not going to cut it short when I have nowhere else to be, or anyone to take care of. For once.

“Stay here.” Theo kisses the shell of my ear before sliding off the bed. He comes back a moment later, condom disposed of, and a warm washcloth in hand. I take it and disappear into the adjoining bathroom before he can say a word. I pee and clean myself up before stepping back out. Theo is sitting on the edge of the bed, a corner of the covers pulled back, but his hands tucked between his knees.

He looks up as I exit and gives me a small smile. “I don’t suppose I can convince you to stay here for the rest of the weekend, can I?”

“What?” He wants me to stay that long? Maybe so he can fully satisfy his curiosity about me before moving on. “Um, you want me to stay for the whole weekend? That was not...I wasn’t….” I trail off at the hurt that creeps across his face.

“No pressure, Sunshine.” He smiles at me, but it’s a fake smile that doesn’t reach his eyes.

If Lauren were here she would smack me upside the head for even considering leaving. My lady bits are voting with Lauren, probably so they can get another turn to play. I don’t have a good excuse not to stay.

“Do you have a spare toothbrush?”

Early morning sun shines in my eyes as I pull my game face on. It’s just another Monday at the office. I push the thought of my amazing weekend with Sophie to the back of my mind where it belongs so I can focus on my company. I grip my steering wheel, eyes closed, head pressed hard into the back of my seat. After ten years of doing this every day it should be second nature, but it’s not. Every morning, I put on my grumpy boss persona, just like my designer suit coat. My armor.

I pull my phone out of my pocket and hold it up to my ear, the podcast I had been listening to in the car still playing, the volume turned low. Most days I really am on a phone call as I walk in, but today I’m not above pretending, to avoid an awkward encounter with Sophie.

I pull my eyebrows together, making my expression match the tone of my voice. I keep up the charade, listening to the recording as I pull my briefcase and coat out of the backseat.

“Unacceptable,” I bark into the phone as I close the car door. One of the ladies in marketing scurries past me.

“Yes, but don’t you think that a book about a giant white whale should…” The podcast hosts mutter in my ear as I step inside.

“That’s not what we agreed to. Check your contract—I think you’ll find I’m correct.” I cover my near-miss with a steely tone, furrowing my eyebrows for good measure.

“You don’t think Ahab is just a lonely old man who’s trying to go on one last…”

“Good morning, sir.” Someone greets me, but I ignore them, my eyes straining to see through the windows into the lobby.

For all my famed smarts, I have no idea where things stand with Sophie. We spent the weekend wrapped up in each other in bed, ignoring reality. I haven’t even asked her if she wants to see me again now the weekend is over. Because I may be a genius, but I’m also an idiot.

“I mean it, I have to go now.” Sophie’s laughing words from yesterday echo in my mind as I make my way to the front doors. My mouth twitches at the memory of her lips when I pulled her back for one more kiss. I’d convinced her to stay with me until it was time for her to pick up Emma. “Have a good night. And thank you for an amazing weekend—I’ll never forget it.”

Of course I spent all night dissecting what she’d meant. Was that a dismissal? Was Sophie done with me? Thirty-six hours is nowhere near long enough to unearth her secrets.

I slip my earbuds in, just in case my phone actually does ring, and pull open the door to the lobby. Sophie is bustling around her desk, doing whatever it is she needs to do to prepare for the day. I came in early hoping to see her without an audience. “Good morning.” The greeting feels foreign on my tongue, probably because I never greet people unless they are coming to see me in my office.
