Chapter 5

Her fingers curledinto his neck when he lifted his head and ended the kiss. “Iwill not take you in the backseat of my vehicle.” His heart washammering inside his chest, and it was taking extreme control on hispart to do just that.

The need for her wasraging inside his body, and he did not want to stop. Reaching for hershirt, he pulled it over her head.

“What are youdoing?”

“Do you wantme, Madison?”

“I do.”

“Then thoseare the two words you must say for it to happen.”

She blinked athim and tried valiantly to surface from the fog of desire, rippingher to shreds.

“You are sayingwe cannot be together unless we are married. Do you hear yourself?”

His smile was grim ashe reached for her jacket and put it on her. “And I cannotbelieve I am saying it. I love you and would like you to be my wife.”He drew the zipper up, his eyes meeting hers. “It would havebeen different in the past, but then again, I was not in love. I havenever been in love; this is new to me.”

“I cannot marryyou.” She started to climb off his lap, but he held hereffortlessly.

“There is nosuch thing.”

“I signed adocument, one that was drawn up by your contingent of lawyers.”

“We do it insecret for now. I respect the fact that you did that before wemet-”

“I am not listening. Now, are you going to letme up?”

“You signed thedocument before we met.” He continued as if she had not spoken.“We will, of course, find a way around it in the future.”His hands cupped her face, an intense expression on his handsomeface. “I want you to be my wife, and I am prepared to hide thefact that we are together for now.”

“What sensedoes that make?”

“It would makesense to me, to us.” He brushed his lips against hers, and whenhers parted, he slid his tongue into her mouth.

Her arms came aroundhis neck as she breathed him in. The need to be with him was sofierce that it was like a pain inside her, like teeth scraping hersoul. It wasn't very comforting! She had never felt this way before.

“Please.”She heard herself whispering when he ended the kiss again, hisforehead pressed against hers.

“Put me out ofmy misery. Marry me, Madison,” he whispered hoarsely. He feltas if he would burst with the need to have her.

“Let me go.”She managed to say as she struggled to get away.

“For now, andit is only because this is pure torture for me. Think about my offer, and I will see you tomorrow.”

“No.” Sheclosed her eyes briefly. “I do not want to see you. Do me afavor by leaving before I get there. I have work to do, and you aredistracting me.”

“I have to seeyou-”

“No. God!”Her hands fisted at her sides. “Give me some damn space. Idon’t know what this is, but I cannot handle it. I am new atthis job, and I cannot afford for your mother even to have theslightest inkling-”

“You are notgetting rid of me,” He told her tightly.

“Why? Becauseyou always get what you want?” She jeered.

“Because I amin love with you,” He told her. “And I will not stopuntil you are my wife.” Lifting her quickly, he opened the doorfor them both to escape. Madison scrambled out of the vehicle and, without looking back at him, practically ran up the steps and insidethe house, slamming the door shut behind her.

He stood there for afew minutes, ignoring the cold and biting into his cashmere jacket. He relished it because it was doing its best to diffuse theincredible heat inside his body. Turning around, he yanked at thehandle and slid in. It took a few minutes for him to push the startbutton.
