“Is that a goodthing?” There was a thread of amusement in his deep voice.

“I will let youknow.” Settling back in the seat, she closed her eyes and, within minutes, was fast asleep.

Brennan slowed downand reached across, pulling the blanket to her neck. He had adjustedthe vehicle's temperature to ensure she was comfortable, not too warmor cold. Just right. He felt this protection towards her, and hisfierceness strengthened as soon as he placed his ring on her finger.

Yes, they wouldhave to keep their marriage a secret for now, and he was dreading hismother’s reaction when she found out they had gone behind herback. But she was a man in love, and nothing else matters except thewoman seated across from him.

The weekend was onlytwo days, and come Sunday night, they would have to return to thereal world, where they would pretend they were just acquaintances. Hewas not going to think about that right now.

He would spend thetwo days cementing their bond, the relationship between each other. He would tell her what she wanted to know about his past and wouldask questions about hers.

Taking his eyes offthe road, he glanced at her, a smile touching his lips when henoticed she was snoring slightly. Her hair was the same style as whenshe stood before Judge Branson and pledged her life to him.

She was wearing hisring, and he was wearing the one she had put on his finger. He waswell and truly hitched and felt like laughing like a loon. He washappy, and whatever comes after this, they will handle it - all ofit.

Chapter 7

She was still fastasleep when he drove into the cobbled driveway of the remote andisolated farmhouse. It belonged to a very good friend, andpreparations had been made in advance.

As soon as she hadagreed to marry him, he had started putting things in motion. Theonly thing he did not like about the arrangement was the fact thatthere was a very good cell service, which meant they would bebombarded with messages and calls. He had wanted to spend the entireshort time alone with her.

Switching off themotor, he turned sideways to look at her. She had removed her boots, and her feet were curled beneath her. He had taken a pillow from thebackseat for her head. Her hands were cradling her cheek, and she wassnoring slightly.

He was lookingforward to sleeping with her, not that they would do much of ittonight. He was hungry for her and had been since he first saw her.

Opening the car doorslowly so as not to disturb her, he got out and pushed it shut beforegoing around to open her door. He had lifted her into his arms, blanket, and pillow before her lashes fluttered open. Dark brown eyesstared at him in confusion.

“Where-”

“We are here, darling. You slept for most of the journey. Not a very good companyat all.”

“I was tired.”She yawned delicately and blinked the rest of the sleep from hereyes. “It’s pretty. All that snow piled up. Are you goingto carry me inside?”

“I am, yes.”Kicking the door shut, he strode towards the large red door and keyedin a series of codes. Pushing it open, he stepped into an expansivefoyer with a colorful throw rug on the floor.

“Thekitchen?”

“Yes. I amstarving.”

He carried into alarge, cheerful room with an old-fashioned range and a vast blue andwhite counter in the middle of the floor.

“We have cake,”he told her with a boyish grin, setting her down on one of thehigh-backed stools.

“We do?”

“Hmm.”Unable to help himself, he cupped her face and kissed her lightly.Anything more than that was going to cause him to lose control. Thatwas how much he wanted her. “I will just go and get the stuff.

“I will makesome hot chocolate or something.”

“I don’tbelieve you have to make anything. The fridge is stocked, and foodhas been prepared for us for the two days. I don’t want us towaste a minute standing before a stove.” With that said, heturned and left the room.

Madison stared afterhim for a minute before lifting her left hand to look at the ring. The diamond solitaire was exquisite and a perfect fit, telling herthat the man she had married so hastily knew what he was doing.

He had insisted sheleave everything to him, and she had. Shaking her head and refusingto allow anything to filter into her thoughts from the outside world, she discovered what was there and found that he had been right. Thefridge was stocked, and several covered containers had completemeals.

She found the pot ofhot chocolate in a mason jar. Taking it out, she dug around for a potand put it on. When she heard him coming in, the scent of hotchocolate permeated the air. She followed the sounds of his footstepsascending the stairs and figured he was taking their things to thebedroom.

A shiver ran alongher spine as she thought about what would be happening an hour orless from now. She did not want to think about that either. Not yet.
