“Mr. Connelly!”The pretty dark-haired nurse at the front desk jumped to her feet ashe strode into the hospital entrance early in the morning.

“I need to seemy wife.”

“Your wife?”The woman looked understandably confused.

“I got thisFiona.’ Kyle strode forward with a smile. “Come withme.”

“How is she?”

“She cameout of surgery more than a little groggy and out of it. But she isfine now. And four weeks pregnant.”

Brennan stopped sosuddenly that Kyle almost careened into him.

“She ispregnant?”

“Yes. Thisway.”

“Does sheknow?”

“Thedoctors told her, and I had to tell them that they were treating thewife of one of their biggest donors. You can just imagine theirsurprise and consternation. This way.”

He pushed the door ofa private room open and nodded to the doctors and nurses inside theroom.

“Mr. Connelly,I am Dr. Michael Brogden, and this is Dr. Nicholas Greene, nursesCampbell and Manchester.”

“How is mywife?”

“Still out ofit., We did not know-”

“How could you?We were not telling anyone just yet. Is she out of the woods?”

“She is, yes.The assault did not affect the fetus at all.”

“I intend tostay with her.”

“Of course. Sheshould be coming around any minute now.”

“Thanks.”

Kyle stayed backafter they trooped out. “We will not hold back the press forvery long.”

“I am notworried about that.”

“And yourmother? Shouldn’t you inform her before this hits? I have totell you that the staff here are much worse than reporters. Iguarantee that even now, one of them will call the tabloids.”

“You areright.” Sitting on the edge of the bed, he took her handgently. “We are going to have a conversation she will not likeas soon as she wakes up.”

“If you orderher to give up her job, that will not go well.”

“I don’tgive a damn.”

“You also mightwant to change the attitude before she wakes up. The more you push, the more she will want to push back.”

“Just lether try,” He said softly.

“Your funeral.I will leave you to it.” Kyle left and closed the doors behindhim.

Lifting her hand, hekissed her knuckles, closing his eyes briefly. He had come straightfrom the hangar when the plane landed and did not care that he wasslowly crashing. She was going to be okay, and she was carrying hisbaby.
