“That’snot the way we work-” The man stumbled back at the enraged lookon Brennan’s face.
“You think Igive a damn about that? My wife is in there with that maniac, and Iam going to do anything to get her out safely. That is all I careabout.”
“I understandyour concern-”
“No, youdon’t,” Brennan told him coldly. “My wife is inthat building; if I have to march in there and get her out, Iwill.”
“Mr. Connelly-”The captain was interrupted by the radio.
“Yes, Miguel,we are still here.” He listened for a minute before responding.“That’s going to take some time for us to get-” Hebroke off as Brennan grabbed the radio.
“This isBrennan Connelly, and you will be dealing directly with me. How is mywife?”
“Ah, the bigman himself. Your lovely wife is just fine. How pregnant is she?”
“That’snone of your damn concern. You are demanding ten million dollars andsafe passage out of the country. I can make that happen.”
“Mr.Connelly-”
“Shut the hellup.” He snapped. “I need to speak to my wife.”
“Of course.”The man said genially. “But no funny stuff. Your husband is onthe line.”
“Brennan?”
“Baby, areyou okay?”
“We are fine,darling. Miguel is living up to his promise of not hurting anyone. Hejust needs to get out of here.”
“You aregoing to be fine. Let me talk to him.”

“Isn’tthat sweet? Now, about my money-”
“I must go tomy bank to get the cash.”
“Soundslike a plan. And the plane?”
“I will arrangefor you to use the company’s jet.”
“Now, that’swhat I am talking about.” He cackled. “Like I always toldmy old man, money talks a lot.”
“One scratch onher, just a mark that was not there before, and it will not be safefor you anywhere.”
“Are youthreatening me?”
“No, SenhorSantiago, that is a direct promise.”
“I got thatboss. Not a scratch on your beautiful wife.”
Turning off theradio, Captain Faraday turned towards Brennan, who was dialing anumber.
