“Nothing ofimportance,” he told her lightly. “How about somesoup?”

“It’safter midnight.”

“And you needsomething in your stomach.”

She shook her head.“I just need water. Tons of it.”

She watched him as hewent to get it from a cabinet built into the wall. She wasclear-headed, now a little woozy and a little weak. The place wasshrouded in semi-darkness, but she could see enough of the room totell it was the height of luxury.

“Here.”

Taking the glass fromhim, she forced herself not to gulp it. She was dying of thirst.

“Glassceiling?”

“I like to lookat the sky when I am in bed.” He said with a smile. “Youare feeling better.”

“Thanks to you.It seems I owe you one.”

“Oh, I thinkit’s more than that.” Taking the empty glass from her, hechecked her temperature. “Just slightly elevated.”

“Residual.”She plucked at the shirt. “You took care of me and did not askpermission to take me back to your place.”

“You were outof it.” His amber eyes glinted in mirth.

“Would it havemade a difference?”

“No.”

“You are toococky for your good.”

“And you don’tknow when to take a damn break. How can you be a doctor and not knowwhen to stay home?”

“I felt alittle off since the other day and thought it was not a big deal.”

“I get it. Itwill have to close its doors if you are not at the clinic.”

“That’snot- oh, just go to hell.”

“If you don’ttake care of yourself, you will not be able to care for yourpatients.”

“You sound likea fussy old woman.”

His eyebrowslifted. “Is that the best you can do?”

“I can do a lotbetter, but I just want to sleep right now. Go away.” She sliddown on the pillows and closed her eyes.

“This happensto be my bedroom.”

“And I am surea place like this has several more.”

“It does, but Ihappen to like this bed.” Moving the sheets, he slid in next toher, bringing her body against his.

To his surprise, shedid not try to move away. “Don’t try anything.”

“I will do mybest to try and resist,” he murmured in her hair.
