We’re probably both trying to call each other at the same time.

I stop my call, trying to give her a chance to get through.

My heart races as I rush down the alley and out onto the street.

It’s busy out here, mostly with people rushing around to get to work.

It takes a couple of seconds to build up the momentum I need to start weaving my way through the crowd. I glance down at my phone as I go, holding onto it tightly.

The start of our conversation plays over in my head as I trudge through the crowd.

“Leanne! Thank God you answered. I need help.”

The background noises I can hear tell me she’s outside, which is kind of weird for this time in the morning. If her words didn’t instantly put me on edge, that would do it.

“Secret? What’s going on? Are you okay?”

“I’m …” she says, starting to cut out. “It’s just … I came to …”

The call cut off completely, and she hasn’t called back.

I keep glancing at my phone as I walk in the direction of her apartment.

I have to start somewhere, and if she doesn’t call back, I’ll be knocking her door and asking whoever answers where she is and why the hell they aren’t with her.

Wait. It’s Friday. Is this the day they told me Colvindale Academy is closing?

I think, maybe it is.

Which would mean Seth and Ryan are probably on their way out there, leaving Secret with Cassidy and Dylan. Cassidy’s a good guy, but he’s also a soft touch for an Alpha.

The bad feeling I’ve had since the call cut out gets stronger.

I take in my surroundings as I walk, trying to make sure I don’t miss anything that might clue me in to where Secret called me from.

It sounded loud wherever she was.

I don’t know if it sounded like this.

I move out of the crowd and try calling her again. This time, my call goes straight to her voicemail.

Shit. Why don’t I have Cassidy’s number?

I should have all of her mates’ numbers.

Not just Seth’s.

I think about calling him, but I hesitate.

I don’t really know anything. All I know is Secret called me, and she said she needed my help.

Sending him a text is the sensible option. He’ll hear the worry in my voice if I call him.

I send it, asking for Cassidy’s number because Secret’s battery died when I was speaking to her.

He texts the number back in seconds, no questions asked.

I save it and make the call immediately.
