“That’s a very persistent rumor,” I admit. “But I don’t believe it’s completely true.”

“Oh, no?” she asks, raising an eyebrow at me.

“The biology of Omegas and Betas isn’t as different as our society leads us to believe, but I’ll let you be the judge of that. You really should feel it for yourself.”

Chapter Seventy

Leanne

I have to admit, I’m seriously intrigued by E.A.’s thoughts on his Alpha knot. He doesn’t seem to think my Beta biology will stop his cock from swelling and locking inside me once he starts to claim me, and I think I might be a little disappointed now if that’s not what happens.

I release the last button on his shirt and tug it apart.

He stiffens slightly before he shrugs it off his shoulders, and lets it fall to the floor.

His body is a little more muscular than I expect. Everything I can see is well defined and shows he takes good care of himself. The only thing that doesn’t fit are the ragged white scars across his stomach. I touch those and look up at him, curious.

“What happened?” I ask.

“My father,” he starts, a bitter note in his tone. “He was angry when I suggested my mother had been kidnapped and murdered. He lashed out when I argued with him. He was getting ready to fix a shelf, at the time, so there was a screwdriver in his hand. I’m lucky it didn’t cut deep enough to do any real harm.”

“That’s awful. I mean, I’m glad it didn’t cut deep, but I’m sorry he didn’t believe you, E.A.”

“I should have realized he wouldn’t. I didn’t notice how he was handling her disappearance until that moment. He had a lot of anger about it, and he refused help when it was offered.”

Now, I feel even more determined to help him nail Harlan West.

“It was a long time ago,” he says. “I moved on.”

I nod. “You have your own family now.”

“My pack,” he agrees. “We’re about to start adding to our family.”

I tug his pants open. They fall down, leaving his impressive length stretching out a tight pair of boxer briefs, in black, like the rest of his clothes.

“This is you without a knot?” I ask, making him laugh.

“This is me,” he says, peeling his underwear away from his cock and pushing it down his muscular legs.

That’s when I realize he’s shaved. His upper body, his arms, legs, his dick and his balls. Everything is smooth and hairless. It’s a surprise, but I can’t say I hate it. He looks good.

“Maybe we should take this into the bedroom.”

He nods, and then glances at the door.

“Oh, shit. Didn’t we lock that?” I ask, genuinely not sure.

“I’ll get it,” he tells me. “You can get into bed.”

I reach back and unclasp my bra, and then I haul it off along with my cami, dropping both to the floor before I head into the bedroom. I hear E.A. locking the door in the other room as I reach under the bed for a couple of the doorstops. If anyone will understand my whole thing with them, it’s him.

I go into the bathroom and change my bandage, because it feels weird not to.

The wound isn’t bleeding, but who the hell knows when it might start up again?

I can’t help smiling when I glimpse his mark on my throat in the mirror.

It’s the last thing I ever thought I’d end up with, but it feels right, because it’s not just an Alpha’s mark, it’s his, and he’s not like any Alpha I’ve ever met.
