“The woman who was pushed off of that roof,” he corrects her. “I have a photo of my mother wearing this locket. It was made for her by the fiancé she had before she met Aldhard Shultz. I have a tape recording of Harlan West confessing that his mother killed that fiancé. He confesses to my mother’s murder on that tape, too. Is that enough evidence, agent?”

“If it’s not, we have more,” I add.

She looks completely shocked.

“All of this is real?” she shakes her head. “I thought you were a crackpot when I saw that local news show. No offence, but Rachel’s the fluff piece gal, and this is no fluff piece.”

“The women are real, too,” I remind her.

“Why the hell didn’t you call the cops?” she asks, shaking her head.

“We know a few of them are in his pocket. We’re honestly not sure about the rest.”

“And besides that,” E.A. says. “Harlan’s still tied up, passed out cold outside the station like he has been for over an hour.”

He shows the agent the camera feed.

“You have got to be shitting me,” she murmurs. “You people really are crazy, but if this is all real. I get it. Believe me. I get it. Holy shit. Okay. I’m calling for backup. Get ready for a long night because I’m going to need to go over all this stuff with you guys, take statements and understand all the information before I can get out of here and actually go arrest people.”

It’s been a long day, but I don’t even care.

“We’re ready,” I tell her, taking E.A.’s hand.

“Whatever it takes,” he adds.

Chapter One Hundred Fifteen

Leanne

By the time the FBI leave, with all the evidence and intent to make arrests, I’m ready to collapse into bed and pass out for a day or two. I get up from behind Echo’s desk, stretching my arms and legs and stifling a yawn.

“What time is it?” I mumble to E.A.

“It’s late. Just after three a.m.,” he says. “Long past time for sleepy hackers and pregnant mates to be in bed.”

“Where is Toshi, anyway?” I ask.

“He’s actually sleeping with his head on Spencer’s desk. I didn’t have the heart to wake him when I noticed an hour ago. I’ll do it now that the cops are finally gone.”

“You think we’re safe?” I ask, only thinking about it now that the women are safe, and we’ve done everything we could to make sure the men who bought them are arrested.

He nods. “I do. I think we saw the FBI go arrest Harlan and his lackey, and we know they’ll arrest all of his clients and even those dirty cops. No one’s getting away with what they did.”

I let out a sigh. “I think I can sleep well now.”

“Me too,” he admits. “Well, I’d sleep a little better if there wasn’t cheese dust all over my office.”

“Oh, shoot!” I exclaim. “I totally forgot about that!”

“That was you?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.

“It was Secret. We talked and everything feels good between us now. I’m sorry about the cheese dust. I’ll clean it up tomorrow, promise.”

He smiles. “I’m glad everything’s good with you two now. Don’t worry about cleaning. I’ll do it tomorrow.”

“Did I tell you I love you?” I ask.

“You did, but I’m not going to get tired of hearing it,” he says. “I love you, too.”
