It’s not totally my kind of thing, but it’s not caffeinated.

Decision made I get to my feet, leaving the empty theatre.

Chapter Nineteen

Leanne

There are worse things than having to wait around, but it is one of those things that really sucks.

Kind of makes me wish I had a game on my phone, just not enough to go hunting around for one I can download right now. I finish my hot chocolate way too fast, and order another between trips to the ladies room. I barely touch the second one. It’s just the cost of having a place to wait.

When I have fifteen minutes to go, I get up and go to the ladies to check on my make-up.

I end up re-applying my nude lipstick and brushing away a couple of mascara flakes from under my eye. When that’s done, I realize I’m probably overdressed.

I dressed in a way that seemed appropriate for the early interview.

I doubt a guy who runs a P.I. agency expects to see an assistant turn up looking like an office drone.

Probably should have thought of that before I wasted a bunch of time sitting in this café.

Oh, well. Too late to do anything about it now.

I find a pack of mints in my purse and pop a couple into my mouth to chew on the way over.

The hot chocolate probably helped with my popcorn breath, but I did eat kind of a lot of it.

I probably smell like the movie theatre anyway.

“Too late to care,” I murmur to myself as I look around.

I catch sight of a guy in a baseball cap down the street, and I blink as he turns away.

Is that blue hair I can see at the back of his head?

He’s walking away pretty quickly, and I have other places to be, but I can’t help thinking about the guy wearing the baseball cap in the movie theatre. Was it the same guy?

I fish around in my purse for the business card he gave me.

Man, I would love to call him right now, just to see if it’s him.

I find the card, but I’m definitely out of time.

Damn. He was cute and he seemed sweet, but I can’t date a creep who stalks women.

I head to the address of the P.I. office, and I get there with a minute to spare.

I glance around before I open the door. No sign of baseball cap guy.

I’ll keep an eye out for him when I leave.

Here goes. Let’s find out if interview number two is for a real job.

Chapter Twenty

Echo

I hear it when the door opens in the hall. I’ve been watching the monitor and waiting for the past fifteen minutes, eager to catch a glimpse of the woman who caused E.A. and Spencer’s latest fallout.
