His hand caught my arm. “I want to hunt you.”

I froze.

His grip tightened until it was nearly painful. “I want to chase you down. I want to catch you and pin you to the earth and fuck you until you scream my name. I want to knot you and mate bond you so thoroughly, you’ll never be apart from me, not in this life or the next. And when I’m done, I want you so limp and broken from all the pleasure I’ve given you that you’ll be ruined for having any beast’s cock but mine inside you ever again. I can share you with the ones you’ve chosen. But only them. Any other who tried to touch you would die with my fangs in their throat and their heart in my claws, and when they were gone, I would fuck you in their blood just to prove to their ghosts you’re mine.”

I stared, unable to even blink at the things he described. At the way my body caught up faster than my brain, slowly starting to burn with desire.

Which clearly meant I was mad. Utterly deranged. That shouldn’t be arousing me, not like this. But when I tried to speak, all that emerged was a strangled squeak of, “What?”

He grunted again and released me, turning to go.

“Don’t.”

He paused. A dry scoff left him. “See? Repulsive.”

I grabbed his arm. “I meant you don’t just leave after saying something like that. You don’t.”

Everything in me was shaking when he looked back.

“I-is that true?” I pressed. “What you said. Is that?—”

The growl that left him sent a hot rush through my body, tingling through my breasts down to my core.

“You didn’t…” I wetted my lips. His eyes flicked down, tracking the motion. “You never told me…”

“Because I am not a safe creature, princess. I never will be. But you…” He scowled.

I pulled back. “Me what?”

“You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Only a monster would risk breaking that. And a monster isn’t worthy of you.”

He started to turn away again, and I tightened my grip, stopping him. My pulse was racing and my mind was too, a thousand impossible thoughts rattling through me. This was a man who’d gone hot and cold and spun my head around so many times, I was dizzy with it.

And yet…

“Apple.”

His brow furrowed in confusion.

I swallowed hard. “My word. When I first…” I wetted my lips again. “When I agreed to sleep with Casimir the first time, he told me to pick one and to say that if it became too much. That it would be his cue to stop the kinds of things he wanted to do with me. So that’s mine. Apple.”

Ozias didn’t even appear to be breathing.

“I know my own mind,” I continued. “I decide what I want.”

Carefully, I took a step closer to him and put my hand on his chest. Beneath my palm, his skin was warm, and at the small contact, another low growl left him, sending a thrill of need through me that turned my insides molten.

My eyes lifted to his. “And I want you.”

His growl deepened.

And then his lips were on mine.

OZIAS

What little control I still possessed kept me from shifting and claiming her that instant.
