That was sex.

My hands curled into fists, my body quaking as the demon instantly rioted to break free. Her scream… it’d sounded wrong because it wasn’t pain. Not fully. And the way she was walking wasn’t from a wound.

Everything realigned itself in my head. Ozias had found her. He’d fed her, returning her to sanity. And rather than bring her back to us immediately, rather than let anyone know she was safe…

He’d fucked her so hard she could barely walk.

A snarl peeled my lips from my teeth. My jaw ached, my bones quivering under my skin. I ducked my face away quickly, praying no one saw the reaction.

But the demon was furious.

So was I.

“Roan.” Gwyneira’s footsteps came toward me, and I recoiled immediately, trying not to breathe. The lingering scent of her arousal choked me while the demon surged and rained hell beneath my skin, demanding I take her to the ground and claim her now.

From the corner of my eye, I saw her stop, a flicker of hurt in her eyes. But it vanished quickly, and when she spoke again, her voice was tightly controlled with only a cool curiosity and not the concern it’d held only moments before. “Where are the others?”

The tone shouldn’t have felt like a knife, but it did.

“They were not too far behind,” the vampire bastard assured her calmly. “Though Roan had gone on ahead.”

The need to snarl intensified. Was that some kind of criticism? That level, royal-ass tone he loved to use gave away nothing, but that didn’t mean?—

“Oh.” Gwyneira’s small sound of surprise cut my thoughts short. When I glanced at her, she was giving me a confused look, like she was trying to figure out why I would’ve done such a thing.

Fuck.

The thud of running footsteps saved me from needing to explain—not that I would’ve been able to anyway. The other men raced into the clearing, rushing past me to her side.

“Are you all right?” Dex demanded of her immediately.

“What happened?” Niko asked. “Nature couldn’t tell me where either of you were or?—”

“We’re fine,” Ozias cut in gruffly.

They were damn well more than that.

I turned away as the others kept talking, all of them checking if Gwyneira was okay and assuring her and Ozias of how relieved they all were that the two of them were alive. I was an asshole for not joining them—I was relieved too, dammit—but if I let her know that, she’d only ask questions about why I was suddenly acting like I cared.

And that didn’t even bring into it the demon inside me currently raging over the fact one more person who was not us had fucked our mate.

I squeezed my eyes shut. She wasn’t ours. Wasn’t, for the love of the gods.

Maybe we should just leave.

The demon only got angrier. Like hell we were leaving her, and if I wouldn’t stop opposing what it insisted was true?—

“You sure you’re okay there?” Lars asked.

I looked back sharply. His attention was on Gwyneira. The group had started east like they were planning on resuming the journey.

Of course they’d noticed she was walking strangely.

She blushed, not quite looking at Ozias. “Yes, I’m sure.”

“Wait…” Clay chuckled, glancing between them. “Did you two have some fun while on the way back to all of us?”

I ground my teeth. She only blushed brighter.
