I shake my head slowly. “I guess not.”

A mischievous smile crosses his face. “So, about those Jurassic Park pajamas…”

“Friends don’t talk about pajamas!”

He chuckles. “I’m just asking about the movie. You’re a fan?”

“Oh, yeah,” I say with a nod. “The original Jurassic Park movie is one of the greatest ever made. From the plot to the characters to the special effects to the John Williams’ score, it’s perfect.”

“One of Spielberg’s best,” he agrees with a grin. “Have you ever seen it on the big screen?”

“I haven’t had the pleasure.”

“Are you free tonight?”

A shiver rolls down my spine. What pleasure is he offering? I swallow around a lump in my throat. “We’re not allowed to date,” I remind him.

“Just two friends watching a movie together,” he says, holding up a three fingers salute. “Scout’s honor.”

The mischievous glint in his eyes suggests he was never a Boy Scout.

Chapter 5

Jonah

To her credit, she doesn’t question me as I drive away from town. She gives me a quizzical look when I pull onto a gravel road, but still doesn’t say anything. It’s not until the sun starts to set that she finally asks for more details.

“Where are you taking me?”

“To see Jurassic Park on the big screen.”

When I park the car in front of a barn, she turns in her seat to glare at me. “I thought we were going to the movies?”

I grin at her. “I told you were watching the movie on a big screen, and it doesn’t get much bigger than the broad side of a barn.”

She follows me as I climb out of the car, eyeing me with skepticism when I hand her a pile of quilts from the trunk.

“Would you mind spreading these on the lawn while I set up the projector?”

She’s a good sport, spreading a blanket onto the ground. I smile with satisfaction when I see that she’s only spread out one blanket for the two of us to share.

Noticing my smile, she says, “There are two quilts, and it’s a bit chilly tonight. I need one for warmth.”

I nod. “Of course.”

I hit play on the projector before pondering where I should sit—next to her or behind her?

Finally, deciding to take a chance, I take a seat behind her, spreading my legs around her so she can lean against my chest. She hesitates but only for a moment. I realize she’s already too engrossed in the movie to worry about seating arrangements.

I try to focus on the movie, but it’s impossible with her in my arms. Her body is warm, pressed backward into mine, and her hair smells like flowers. By the time Lexi screams, “What’s going to happen to the goat?” I can’t resist the urge to nuzzle my face into the crook of her neck.

She sucks in a breath. “Jonah…”

“Just friends,” I whisper, planting a kiss beneath her earlobe.

She doesn’t pull away, so I continue to trail my lips up and down her neck. Wrapping my arms around her body, I slide a hand beneath the hem of her shirt. I give her time to stop me, but when she doesn’t, I slip the hand into her bra, cupping her breast.

She gasps but still makes no move to pull away. I move my face to the other side of her neck. With my free hand, I flick open the button on her jeans.
